ASUS A7V333 MoBo
ATHLON XP2400+
1 Gb DDR RAM PC2700
VISIONTEK TI-4600, 30.82 Driver
WINDOWS XP Home
Display Res. 1024x768
All SIMS Graphics Settings at MAX with all individual Graphics Settings Options ticked. It's not so much the above which give me the results I get but the way I Re-Partioned and Re-Installed WIN XP, stripping out everything I do not need for LEAN & MEAN use with SIMs only, NO INTERNET, PRINTERS, MULTI-MEDIA, NETWORKING, etc.No worries about Bugs and Viruses, completely isolated from the outside world ! Nothing will ever be Installed on that machine other then MSTS and FS2002 Add-Ons.Create NEW Starting Points – image 7Create NEW Starting Points – image 8

Here I was thinking about posting a tutorial on how to make multiple starting points for explore route, and you're thanking ME when I never answered your email?! Hee-hee, well, anyway, as long as you got it, that's the important thing.
Your system ain't quite good enough yet tho, you need to build one just a little bit better and I'll take that one and dispose of it for ya. I didn't see the FPS counter in that trainsim screenshot, question is, what are you getting with something like a 50 car train on
Newark & Jersey City or the New Zealand route? Oh, almost forgot to mention, when you're creating new starting points for Australian & New Zealand routes you gotta be careful how you place them.

RE: Create NEW Starting Points

Okay, okay enough with the NZ jokes. I told you we are the right way up and showed you proof but you seem unconvinced.
I wonder if NZR will still use USA designs for it's rolling stock once they realise the wheels are on the roof.
I was going to download your loco's Jim but I'm not sure I could stand the crick in the neck trying to drive them.
BTW Jim, I've tried several times to download your beta from the posted site and keep losing the link about a third of the way through. Has anyone else reported any problems?
Cheers

Heh, Heh, Heh, in Jim's words, the pair of you ! Jim, you gave me that advice in the Thread where a guy asked what's new in the PON-6 BETA, remember ? Thanks again.Yes I am waiting to build myself the ULTIMATE SIMs machine as soon as all the new hardware for it is available, like the Ultra Fast SERIAL ATA Bus for Hard Drives, the Drives themselves and the new PCI Extra Slots, faster than and replacing the AGP slot in the process.I might take that then "old" machine with me to Chicago, all it would need is a USA Voltage Power Unit. Was going to do the same for my Son, get him one like mine and take it over at Christmas. Changed my mind, too much Hassle and ordered a WIN XP PRO - DELL P4-2.8 with an ATI RADEON 9700 card on a new INTEL 845 Chipset Mobo for him. He needs that sort of machine more than I do, his B'day and X-Mas present ! I can hear a lot of you sigh "Wish I had a Dad like that" ! That's one of those new "CoolerMaster" Aluminium cases wating for all the above. It's very light compared to the steel ones, has a pull-out MoBo Tray and 4 fans fitted, with the PowerUnit providing another one. One Fan is fitted in the Top Panel, the most sensible place for one. Nothing is going to overheat in there, the case itself being heat-dissipating ! No more Screwdrivers needed, Thumbscrews everywhere, fitting the MoBo excepted.Create NEW Starting Points – image 10Yes, I am known to be generous with people who add to my life's pleasures and kit replaced by newer usually goes to friends or local schools. By the time I get to you next year even my current SIMs machine will be slow by comparison with new OEM Machines including the latest technology, but still fast enough for your needs ?P.S.: Frame Rates with long Consists ? Will try one on the NJC soon, headed by my 3D-Triple SF Warbird. Frame Rates using my SEAVIEW SANTA FE Explorer mostly in the 30s+ range. You DOWNUNDER, having problems Downloading from my Web Site ? Yes that is the state of the Internet in Europe, having lost 30% capacity, a major BACKBONE provider having gone bust over here and WORLDCOM and other smaller ones in the States. Try Downloading when it is NightTime here in the U.K. ?

RE: Create NEW Starting Points

Brooksy, I got unable to find server or something while testing the download a few times, just had to try later and usually it worked. Right now it's about 1800 here in the Windy City, which would be around midnight in the UK (I think) and sometime tommorrow morning where you are. I'm guessing just before Noon local NZ would catch all them Limeys at their zizzing stations, and it would be late enough here in NA that most kids would be in bed too. Ottodad, I'd be really interested to hear what you're getting on Brooksy's route, the "Taieri Independant Timber Co" in the file library if you don't already have it. It's more heavily scenicked than the NNJ, and a lot prettier too, even with a short consist of only 8-10 cars I get 7-14 FPS on most of the route, with drops as low as 4FPS in the cities.Tower case, 350 watt power supply
Three 80mm 12v case fans
Motherboard: ASUS A7A-266
Processor: AMD Palimino XP1600+
Memory: 768MB PC-2100 DDR RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti-4400 128MB AGP (detonator 40.71)
Hard disk: WD Caviar Ultra ATA-100 7200rpm 80 gig hd 8mb buffer
Sound: Creative SB 512 PCI
OS: Windows 98 Second Edition, build 2222, DX 8.1
Modem: Speedstream 5260 Ethernet 300 DSL
ISP: SBC Ameritech

See you have winzip on your Machine

Wndows XP has winzip in all but name. Why don't you try it? It is far easier to use than winzip as well.David

Hey sniper,
I got it ok around noon today. Must have been the uphill load from the lower hemisphere that gave me trouble.
Interesting your frame rates in NZ route on that beast of yours.
Can't give as much detail as you re my system but basically I have:
Athlon XP1800+
500mb DDR ram
7200rpm HD 8mb buffer
NVidia GForce3 Ti (128Mb?)
On board sound
steam driven 64k modem
Windows XP home.In my route I get 15-30 fps in open country, and from 12-15 in the cities apart from the entry to Erehwon where I am down to 6-9 fps until just before the station. In the yard at Erehwon looking over to the city I am around 12-15.
Consists about the same size as you quote usually.
I do not turn of unnecessary tasks as you have suggested in prior posts but I must get around to trying that sometime.
Your computer should blow my figures away?
Strange and fickle this sim.
Well, must away and fire up the Big Boy on your route

Cheers

JIMI am going to give that Route a try.Your machine is almost identical machine to mine I used for MSTS before, but my Frame Rates were not as good as your's !WIN XP certainly improves running Games and SIMS. Stick around, you might get one ! P.S. Just had a look at that Route. Got to wait until after Midnight here in the U.K. It's a Bigger Download than the N.&.J.C., PHEW !

RE: Create NEW Starting Points

Forgot to add to my specs.
I have all settings maxed apart from distance which is back 1 click.
I have all shadows and specularity off.OTTODAD
I uploaded this beast over several nights. The size is due to the large amount of custom objects used. The route itself is not very long, about 30 miles.
I must upload details to the route description section at some time.
I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers
