I have a medium end computer, it's a Compaq Persario with pentium 4 processer, It has a AuthenticAMD AMD-K6 3D processor, 120.0MB of Ram, and windows 98. *hope that's the specs you need* on the default route I get between 10-30 FPS but on d/led I get from 3-15. What settings would help all around. Right now I have the shadows off, distant mountains on, 1500 view range, my terrain err threshold is at 100, my world textures are all one above the bottom notch and my train graphics are on full *won't change those cuz I like my train to look as real no matter how the world textures look* and have 800 X 600 16 bit resolution *same as desktop*
Just tell me what settings would be best for my computer to get high frame rates. Thanks a ton. I bet you'll help out some more people 2.

RE: Best settings for better frame rates

Really it is up to you. You should have about 512MB Ram and you don't give the processor stats. Presarios are not very good PCs, I used to have one, and it what not a very good buy!In reality you need a new PC to get anything better out of the game, as the quality you will lose to increase frame rates, will negate the speed increase.David

RE: Best settings for better frame rates

I find the biggest boost is from reducing the view distance. I get between 12-40 fps on default routes and anything from 6-40 on custom routes. I find my FPS are sloweast with a view out the front window, with or without a cabview, or headout. looking to the side of the train will sometmes increase rates by 150%, even in very dense areas. I find I can increase the forward view FPS by turning down "World Object Texture Quality" to one below the top, but then you loose the side view of the rails, and I don't like my trains floating in air!I have shadows, dynamic shadows and distant mountains switched off, everything else on.
View distance at just above 500
Terain Error Threshold just to the right of center.
World Object Density at 1 notch below the top (9 I think)
Train object and Texture Quality at Max
World Object and Texture Quality one notch down from the top.
Running at 1024 X 768 X 32 Resolution on a Celeron 533mhz,
GeForce 2 Video Card, 512MB RAM. Windows 98.You really should get as much RAM under the hood as you can. I noticed a big improvement in smoothness and FPS when I went from 256MB to 512MB.Good Luck!John

RE: Best settings for better frame rates

What is your processor? You say "Compaq Presario with pentium 4 processor" and then say it has an "Authentic AMD-K6". If you have the K6 then you definitely need to get a better computer. You can get a much better processor than that for a very cheap price these days.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:
