Hey Coonskin,
Yeah, it's still around for the time being. It was actually just abandoned early this year but some tourist lines are looking at operations. The loop is in TN between Copperhill and Etowah. The line was mothballed as the last customer, an acid plant at Copperhill, went to shipping by truck. A tourist railroad still runs the northern part of the georgia line and a shortline the Georgia NorthEastern runs the rest.

Hey Coonskin,
I'll look around about photos. The line was called the Hook and Eye route. Was originaly I think Marietta and Northern RR. Runs from Elizabeth near Marietta GA off the old Western and Atlantic(see Great Locomotive Chase) which was leased to Nashville, Chattanooga and St.Louis about 1890. NC&St.L was owned by L&N but operated seperatly until 1950 or so. L&N had a junction and trackage rights from Cartersville, GA and Elizabeth. The Hook and Eye ran to just north of Blueridge, GA where it split at Murphy Jct. The north branch connected with the Southern (now Smokey Mountain RR) at Murphy, NC and the other west branch ran through Copperhill, TN and connected to the L&N main at Etowah, TN. The loop was called the eye and there was a hook shaped switchback on the Georgia part of the line. The switchback was lost in a realignment a long time ago.
