Sorry this isn't msts related, but it would be greatly appreciated if anyone that has MSN (or doesn't) knows how to stop it from disconecting you because you were idle too long.
Thank You in advance!

RE: How do you keep MSN from idle disconecting?

If you have to go to the can, or something like that, just start a large useless download, and do your thing. Make sure the download is large enough that when you come back it is still going (example - anything from this site because it takes forever). Then you can cancel it when you come back and move on to more productive things that you really want.EDIT: Yeah, I know, that's part of the problem now. I don't know what the answer is, but I've started many multi-megabyte downloads and gone away because the connection degrades to dial-up speed. When I come back later expecting to see a completed download I get the message "cannot establish connection with server"; I think my download has actually completed but the lack of after-action has clued the server to my in-attention, and it acts as if I weren't serious or something. But the download is complete! But it is as if it never happened because the server didn't get some response from me and the file doesn't register in my FAT, and I have to download the entire 100+ megs of files again, and pay close attention while it happens. What a waste of bandwidth. I'm downloading something twice because I'm not good enough to get it complete the first time accordint to this site. Or so it seems. This sucks and I will never pay for membership if this is the way things work. Why should I pay for membership if my paid bandwith is going to be screwed by people having to do multi-downloads of the same thing over and over. Nels should re-consider his approach. As Groucho said, "I'd never join a club that would have me as a member."

RE: How do you keep MSN from idle disconecting?

Actually, i would highly recommend paying for membership for this site. I finally did - no more waiting at the log-in screen, download speeds are much faster, and do not "degrade" like before. If you download often, this is the best way to go. Plus, the more people that become members, the more money Nels has to improve bandwidth and such (i would assume anyway ). What is it, like $30 a year for gigabytes of downloads? Well worth every penny!------ BUZZ ------

Do a search for a program called stay alive, or keep alive or something like that. Its a small freeware utility that will ping the internet every so often to prevent your connection from being idle.CheersDave C

Sounds good. Is it a tattletale (ie: Gator), or will I be anonymous? Could be worth a try. Thanks.

RE: How do you keep MSN from idle disconecting?

If you use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, just set it to send/receive every 5 minutes or so, and it will keep the connection alive. Rob
