RE: Sweet Grass Route.

I just did download and install, and it fails to show up in the route selection list. Question, is this an Xtracks route and he forgot to mention it?

Yes it is a X-Track route. I had the same problem. It would not show up on my list. I deleated it. See http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/6831.html#3

Why delete a Good Route? The current version of x-tracks causes no problems if you follow the directions exactly and you are not a route builder. I have about 100 routes in my collection and they all work with x-tracks installed. John

RE: Sweet Grass Route.

Hee-hee, Mr. Goodwrench, I think GM oughtta teach it's Master Technition how to spell technician, otherwise it looks bad! Yeah, I agree, jpmurd, I've done extensive testing with Xtracks 3 and 3.1, and it no longer has any conflict problems with non-Xtracks routes. The installation is also a lot easier and no longer requires "horacing" the standard track section routes, it's just seamlessly compatible, install it and forget it. It's working so smoothly these days that most people even forget they have it installed, download an Xtracks route or a non-Xtracks route and install it, works right out of the box without any further fiddling around.
That said, it works so well we're getting complacent about it, and should still be specifying in the route description field that it does require Xtracks. I don't have Xtracks installed at the moment because I am a route developer, and I'm currently working on a non-Xtracks route. That's really the only remaining point about Xtracks that requires caution, if you have the Xtracks \Global\tsection.dat file installed and active, and you open your route in the RE and lay track, place signals, whatever, even if you don't use anything but default track sections your route is now Xtracks dependent due to the numbers assigned by the \Global\tsection.dat file.
Anyway, I deleted it but saved the zips, once I'm done with PO&N6 I'll re-install Xtracks and try it out.

RE: Sweet Grass Route.

My 2 cents worth, x-tracks works great as long as you do follow
the destructions. The only problem I had with it was trying to
inject x-tracks into a non-x-track route already in progress.
Caused a few problems, some of which I never got solved. But, on
the non-development computer, the one that's just for running the sim
with no route building, etc allowed, x-tracks installed and works
100% great with all routes, x-track enabled and otherwise. Sweet Grass
looks pretty slick, I'd say it's definitly worth the effort to install
x-tracks.And remember boys and girls, spelling is very impotent.

RE: Sweet Grass Route.

Maybe some folks don't want to screw with X-tracks. I have always been leery of it except now that he has redid the database with x-tracks where you do not have to run horace on all the other routes maybe I'll get around to installing it.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Sweet Grass Route.

Hey, no fair, Fred, you were a Master Technition for 45 years, now that you're a Master Technician instead you gotta start over from zero! Kevin, here's what you do.1. Make a new folder somewhere named \Backup.
2. Click on the \Train Simulator\Global folder, copy, paste the entire folder into \Backup (it's only 9.3 megs).
3. Download and install Xtracks 3.3 full version, try out some of the Xtracks routes. Particularly Newark & Jersey City, one of the best, play with running a short train back & forth over one of those double slip switches in assorted directions, fun-fun-fun.
4. If you don't like it or it starts causing problems, delete the \Train Simulator\Global folder and the Xtracks routes.
5. Copy the \Backup\Global folder, paste it into \Train Simulator, everything back the way it was.I do that all the time, since I can't work on PO&N6 while Xtracks is active without turning it into an Xtracks route, I have \Backup\Global and \Backup\Xtracks\Global, and swap them back and forth. I also have a backup of the default \Trains folder for writing activities, and a backup of my everyday playset, and when I need to write activities and don't want to accidently include a non-default trainset or consist, I delete the \Trains folder and copy the original back in. I also refresh my everyday trainset backup before installing a new loco or car, I must have re-installed MSTS about fifty times before I learned that lesson!

RE: Sweet Grass Route.

Dave, I have just installed x-tracks 3.3 and have had no problems with any of my routes. I have 20 routes now and soon 21 when I snag your Sweetgrass Sub. The last route, the North Coast Railroad, required x-tracks so that prompted me to D/L and install. For those that have not done this the readme is very well done and almost idiot proof. I know because I tested it being the border-line idiot that I am I need all the help I can get. I'm not into route planning or development so hopefully x-tracks will just sit there and not bother anything. The NCR is a nice route if anyone likes the combination of mountains and seaside villages. Brings back a lot of memories that I have of that area. Well off to D/L your route. Looks good and thanks in advance.
