Hi, i've been havinng some trouble trying to install this route. It says unzip to the ROOTS ( C:\ I assume) So I did that and there are another set of zips in the zips that I just unzipped. So I unzip those and I guess it made a folder in the Train Simulator/Routes directory. But when I fired up the game, no route So I just deleted the whole thing and now i'm asking the board. Which procedure worked best 4 you?

If you're gonna do it, do it with precision.

RE: How To Install Seattle Route

That sounds like a load of trouble. I have just downloaded 3 new routes and all just required unzipping, then a simple copy to the routes folder, and a run of the batch file. One I had to do twice before it appeared in the routes to play, but that was a one off.I will have a go with it tomorrow and see what happens.David

RE: How To Install Seattle Route

Start from scratch, and unzip or extract all 5 files into TRAIN SIMULTOR\ROOTS. Then go into ROOTS, and copy the file files into the ROUTES folder. It has been a long while since I downloaded this route, and it took me a while, but I do remeber copying the files into the ROUTES folder, and presto, I was off and running. If you or train freak still can't get it, let me know, and I will do it myself on my computer.Chris

RE: How To Install Seattle Route

It will install in program files/microsoft games/train sim etc.. automatically, if you dont have train sim in those folders then it could have made those folders.
extract all of the seattle1-5.zip files in winzip and extract all of those 5 into the routes folder, it should make a seattle folder and it should run OK.

RE: How To Install Seattle Route

ChrisThis evening I was reading your message about unzip or extract all files into TRAINSIMULATOR\ROOTS. Then go into ROOTS, and copy the file files into the ROUTES FOLDER. After reading your message, I was scratching my head, trying to figure out what is the word, "ROOTS" mean to me?? Because I have seen some of the files that unzip or extract the files into TRAINSIMULATOR\ROOTS. Also where do I find the folder "ROOTS" in the program of Microsoft Train Simulator. Or do I have create the folder and name "ROOTS" in what folder of Train Simulator. Please explain this clearly. I am sorry that I am no computer expert with this.Thankyou for your patience.John

John,
"The Root of means the begining of a folder, which may contain many sub-folders. Hence when you see Train Simulator Folder, open it & you're in the Root.
Hope this helps My Computer specs are in my profile

RE: How To Install Seattle Route

In the box where it ask where you want to extract the route to, delete ROUTES, and type in ROOTS. I never created a folder, so it was either there to begin with, or was created when I extracted the route. The designer of the route, for whatever reason, has it set up that the route must go into the ROOTS folder, then be copied over to the ROUTES folder. Otherwise, it won't work. Chris

This route is a little tricky to install. Here is what worked for me. First unzip all five files(group 1) you downloaded. You will now have five more zip files(group 2). Create a folder (you can create it anywhere, but it is easier to create it in the Routes folder of MSTS)and name it seattle. Now unzip the group 2 files into the folder you created, and if you did not create the seattle folder in the routes folder of MSTS just copy that folder into the routes folder and it will work. Like one of the others it has been a while since I installed the route and can't remember if there is a batch file to run or not.

RE: Installing Seattle Route is a piece of cake

Where is the idea of ROOTS coming from? This is the entire contents of instructions.txt that is in every zip fileInstallation instructions:
1. Put all five Seattle_x.zip files in the C:\ route directory.
2. Double click Seattle_1.zip.
3. Click on Extract in the WinZip tool bar.
4. When the Extract window comes up click on the Extract button
in the upper right hand corner of that window. This will create
a seattle folder in the msts routes folder.
5. Do the same on the other four Seattle_x.zip files.
6. The route is now ready to run.
Chuck Dollins axd2@psu.edu.What could be simpler? The route has been packed up using the default path and provided your installation is in the default location then it will install automatically. If it isn't in the default location then presumably you know how to move folders around in explorer so that shouldn't be a problem either.Bill

RE: Installing Seattle Route is a piece of cake

This is all my fault. I can't spell root and route. Put all five files in the root directory, i.e., the C:\ directory. Then expand 1,2,3 4, and 5. They will the create the correct files called seattle in the routes directory of the train sim.

RE: Installing Seattle Route is a piece of cake

Hey Chuck - thanks for clearing that up. For me I just installed from within Winzip - far quicker Great route, by the way - have explored probably 50% of it and enjoying it immensely. I would have dropped you an email when I had finished exploring but what the heck - accept the public acclaim instead.Bill
