RE: THE BLIMP

Ja, es ist großartig !!Also tried the LEAR. Funny, seeing a plane running along the rails like a train, it's wings slicing through bridge supports and everything else too close to it ! Must find the setting in it's files to elevate to say 100 metres like the Blimp flies, or higher ? The effect should be interesting, the LEAR taking some of the tight bends in the SEAVIEW 2 Route at G5 ! Must try both starting in the Coalmine of the P.O.&.N. Now this is really going to upset some of the "Protoypers" !

RE: THE BLIMP

Tried it Phil, flying a Chopper with GP38 Cab views and Controls. Release the brakes before you get it to fly ? HILLARIOUS !The SIDE VIEWs are nothing compared to the Blimp's. O.K. you could mess with the files and substitute the Blimp Cab views. But what is the point, the Blimp is doing it already and better too !Bottom Line, the BLIMP is it !!!

RE: THE BLIMP

Goodbye Bell 47, Hello Count Zeppelin;..... what a relaxing way to survey new routes! Tried Mikes first one, way back, didn't load too well, so waited, and Lo! patience brings it's reward. All I'm waiting for now is a Hot-Air Balloon !! (in a train shape, of course)
Thanks, Mike.

P.S. the Lear-Jet looks ridiculous out of it's element, (on the ground).

All these "flyable" aircraft that are now available are really creating problems for us route builders. The views are fantastic but it means we have to put in more scenery farther away from the tracks. The Blimp – image 10

RE: THE BLIMP

Not that particular problem, but ConBuilder refused to load it because it doesn't have a coupler line. If anyone else runs into this problem just add a short line like this to the .eng file (watch the parentheses!):
...WheelRadius ( 1.5m )
InertiaTensor ( Box ( 6.962m 7.372m 18.6195m ) )
Coupling (
Type( Bar ) )
NumWheels ( 2 )
MaxBrakeForce ( 150kN )...PaulSThe Blimp – image 11

RE: THE BLIMP

I shouldn't worry too much, Cal ! After all, MSTS wasn't meant to be a FLY Sim and what there is, plenty by the looks of it, is pretty good scenery to enjoy. Especially in the N.&.N.J. as shown, the P.O.&.N. and most of the others.Too much Scenery might distract from what I mainly use it for, to get a better view of where all these tracks branching off the main line go to without having to explore each one in detail ! Sort of Aerial Survey of the Route. Having said that, wouldn't it be nice to have real trains running on real rails and cars on real highways in FS2002 ! Computer generated like Random Air Traffic whenever you get below a certain altitude ?No, I am not going to start another WISH LIST, this time for MSFS !

If you are looking for trains for MSFS, check the links page on this site. Someone has come up with some very good looking railroad simulations for Flight Simulator. I haven't tried it, yet but probably will in near future. The Blimp – image 13

RE: THE BLIMP

http://fsrail.com/ shows more or less of what I had in mind. Fly low, above the legal limit of 500 ft and watch trains, road traffic and other activities. Great minds think alike ! This guy here in the U.K. is working on "Photorealist Scenery" for FS2002, based on Aerial and Satellite Photos. So a real V.F.R. (Visual Flight Rules) privat pilot like myself can do the same in the Sim, follow real road, real rail tracks, etc. More fun than paying £ 80 an hour taking a plain up to do some real flying. Nobody would complain if you did some tree top skimming in the Sim ! Can you imagine something like that in Train Sim ? Go to the Airport by train and then jump into your Lear for a trip to Vegas ! MSTS and FSTS rolled into one. UTOPIA !

Cal, you're right, I'll have to get all the pointed tops off my cliffs.I suppose this is another specification for the proposed Route Specification and Description Forum; Is the route "flyable"?The Blimp – image 14
