Hello all,
Jut got a copy of ‘German Railroads Vol.1 - Along the Bigge Lake’. I think it’s wonderful. There are so many activities to do. The engines and rolling stock are top quality too. What I find brilliant too is the fact that parts of the route are no longer in use today (Dieringhausen to Olpe/Beltzdorf to Olpe), so this add-on opens these old tracks again! The only part that remains in service is the Fittentrop to Olpe route. I think more add-ons should be released of old routes no longer in service, what do you think? I think it’s would be a great way to relive the past and drive these long-lost routes again.I don’t think it’s by any coincidence that the two best add-ons, in my view, are both German developed. Both ‘German Railroads Vol.1’ and ‘Pro Train 2’ have had so much time and detail put into them, they put some of the other add-ons out there to shame.‘Pro Train 2’ is still my favourite, on the sole fact that it’s graphics are somewhat sharper and clearer than those of ‘German Railroads Vol.1’. But there is little to separate them in truth. You really should have both these add-ons, they are just superb.Jay

RE: German Railroads-Along the Bigge Lake / Excellent

I wish you wouldn't mention German railroads, I am still waiting for my copy! LOL!I agree with you on Protrain2, it is all I have been using for the past week! The night runs are very good, with all the station and town lights on, and there is so much AI going on, one activity has 61 AI trains running. My only quibble would be that there are too few freight activities, and what they have got are very easy to do.BTW, why haven't you got Protrain, that is also excellent.David

I agree with you. German Railroads Vol.1 is wonderful. It has a very realistic look because the trackwork and signals look so 'real' and there are a lot of interesting activities. I am looking forward to Vol.2 which will be released soon. Protrain1 is my second favourite route however.
Raymond.

It is interesting that Europeans like European routes, while Americans are totally into US stuff. I suppose it is a culture and nostalgia thing really.Personally, I like all sorts, as long as it gives a protypical feel to the area in general. In that respect, I think the original default routes were very well chosen, all very different but typical of the areas. The only downside were the original activities, which were very poor.David

Here is one American totally into the European routes; IMHO they tend to be a bit more exotic and interesting than the US stuff however, I will reserve judgement until I get into the Cajon Pass... which I just installed:-)I have to agree that the German RR's route is outstanding: even the CD itself (the way the manual, instructions, etc. are laid out) is first class all the way. Pro Train 2 and 1 are top notch as well. If you can get hold of any of these you WILL enjoy! Regards to all...
