The next installment of the IC route has been uploaded and should be available in a couple days. Thanks to Henry and Trouble for testing the install. The reason for the delay of a week is that this update will bring low end machines to their knees and lock the PC up. The reason is the amount of scenery in Decatur. This happened on my kids PII 400mhz machine. On the other machines, PIII 700mhz and greater no lock ups occured. FPS were around 10 with the rolling stock in Decatur. So you've been warned! What's knew; - car spawners from Lake Decatur south and clutter scenery (road signs etc) in the same area,
- custom buildings in Decatur (parts of the passenger station are blue and that is ok) along with Decatur being sceniced on the main line,
- telephone poles south of Clinton,
- from Clinton to Decatur, scenery (mostly farms) added up to 2 miles from track. Gives a better Midwest look.Next update will include more scenery in the Industrial park area in Decatur, and reworking the scenery south of Clinton and Decatur to see if I can stop the lock ups for low end machines. Also the scenery between Decatur and Mattoon will be started.

RE: Illinois Central Route File Update Uploaded

This is a very nice update, folks. For those of you who have never visited the Decatur area, or haven't done so in recent history, get the update and take a look. David has done a wonderful job (IMHO) of really giving us the "feel" of what the area looks like. The changes between this update and what was there before is amazing. Thanks David, for letting me be a part of this.Henry

RE: Illinois Central Route File Update Uploaded

Thanks for the heads-up, guys - I've been looking for this update for a couple of weeks but managed to resist the temptation to pester! I notice a lot of Kelly Ellison's new boxcars are IC stock and should look great working around Decatur. And hey, I'm not griping about one of my favorite routes by any means - but is there any chance the whole masterpiece might eventually be retrofitted with an auto install?

RE: Illinois Central Route File Update Uploaded

Bud;I'm going to give route-riter a try with my next release. So I will put out two zips. One that just has the changed files and one that is the whole thing using route-riter.I'm doing the route-riter way so that new people have an easier start. For people with it already installed though, the zip file is the quickest way for downloading and in my eyes is an install bat.Later

David -Thanks, I like that idea; means we can install the add-on part right away and save the route-riter version to use in the event of a system crash.

Of the 20 odd routes that I have, I rate this one up in the top five. Very well designed and thought out.

Sam;I think the route provides a great backdrop to your engines and rolling stock. Enjoy. Kelley is helping and pushing me to get signals in and with his help, it will happen on the Clinton to Pana portion of the line.Later

Haven't had the chance to download anymore of the IC route sections since around 5b. At one time there were two areas not connected. Have you had the time to fill in that missing section?

I'm still hoping one of you will apply your skills to modelling the ICG from New Orleans to Baton Rouge: ancient oaks, hanging moss, tank farms and flaring gas. It would be the first BELOW SEA LEVEL route! And it might be the only record left if the 100-year flood and the 100-year hurricane hit the same year.

Paul;If I said yes then I wouldn't get to run over all the areas you are doing so I'm going to have to say no. Hummmm.....where can I get you on trackage rights? : )I spent the day touring Caterpiller (got a close up look at the track usuage) and ADM. Also got a lot of good shots of the IC yard in Decatur where I saw Wisconsin Central and IC SD70's along with NS and CN power. Sat and video taped the yard crew pushing cars to various sidings like a hump yard.Later

RE: Illinois Central Route File Update Uploaded

I swear I've been waiting for this to come up sort of natural-like in a conversation, and here it is! Why no IC SD70'S for MSTS??? I'd think Troub, David or someone would have tackled one before now! There are at least some CN '70's in the library; great efforts - but the external cab area never seemed quite right to me - no offense. Does someone have plans for an IC SD70 repaint? Not surprising that Wisconsin Central showed up in Dacatur - but NS? What was up with that, David? I see some orphans here in OKC once in a while, too - e.g., CSX and CP on hand to load autoracks. I always do a double-take - MSTS come to life!

The NS has the old Wabash line along with all the repair shops. The CSX also comes in just to the East of the IC tracks. The NS crew came up to pick up a train the IC crew had made up.

You know, I sneak over and look at his website once in a while (just like I do yours, that's how I scored that alco), thinking I might catch him at just such a thing. Sounds like my plan is a good one and I need to keep at it ...

RE: Illinois Central Route File Update Uploaded

The yard profile hasn't changed that much. Of course the Wabash tracks are no longer 4, just 2 and the IC went from 3 to 1 at the diamond. Since I was here in December, the line to Peroria had a 2 track siding, it's in my release, and the West switches were pulled. The tend to put MOW and cars needing repair on that siding. Found out that ADM is getting coal from Montana and the IC takes the empties from Decatur up to Perioa where they hand it over to another RR which hands it back over to the IC in Iowa. The same thing happens for the full loads from the west. The yard was full yesterday and the yard master says they have been very busy even above the usual fall grain business. Also, all the switchers are gone and they are using G38's and a CN engine I didn't recognize. The switchers were sent to Markam repair shops to fix flat wheels!
