DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYMORE OHIO RAIL 9.0A significant change to Ohio Rail 9.0 has been made. The new version is dubbed 9.1.I apologize for this inconvenience. The distribution of this version obsoletes 9.0 and will necessitate redownloading the files. For fast connects: I will upload Ohio Rail 9.1 as Build 8. NO segments. Just two files as before but they'll be big. Ohhhhhh... quit the cheering! Just install over 9.0 with 9.1.For dial-ups: In the day or so I will provide a fix you can download from my site. This will be small and will install easy I promise. www.edmfamily.com/msts/index.htmDo not download any more of Ohio Rail 9.0. Significant changes in the route have been made including distribution of the route. Both servers, AVSIM and train-sim have been informed to delete the route files. You will not have to redownload the activity pack or the music. Rich Garber

Mr. Garber,
In a private E-mail you accused me of causing you a great deal of trauma when I voiced my exception to the 9 file D/L system that you instituted with Ohio Rail 9.0. Now, suddenly, you have informed us that you are returning to the 2 file D/L system that we had grown accustomed to using with previous releases of the route! Does this sudden change have something to do with the many problems, as noted in previous threads, experienced by users attempting to install the route?

Here is at least one of us that wishes you two had continued your private emails... 'Nuff said.Maybe we ought to just say "thanks" to Rich and understand that he did "try" to be nice to the people with slow or limited ISP connections by breaking up the files in the smaller sections.Sometimes experiments don't turn out the way you plan... sometimes they do...

LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-02 AT 01:08 PM (EDT)

You created a post where it was titled 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.' In that post you referred to the installer as having been changed and then you went on to make statements in later posts that your rememdy was to uninstall Build 8 and start from scratch. You were misinforming people about something of which you obviously knew nothing about. The installer wasn't and still isn't a problem. The installer as I have said many times over is the same exact installer as was used in Build 8. Further, you don't have to remove Build 8 either. In the tutorial I wrote I don't even address how to use or do the installer.Because you have stated the apparent trouble people here had at train-sim which was not evidenced at the other forum, I will continue to only release the new version at the other site where the news was more welcomed. Thank you for your input. Rich Garber

I really do not mind being your excuse for the day! In my first response to this thread I asked you a simple question and all you could come up with is your usual double talk that you never make a mistake...it is always some elses fault. In "If it aint broke Dont Fix it' I simply stated that I preferred the original two file D/L
method that we all had been accustomed to using. If I hadn't pointed out that one of the files in the avsim D/L library was improperly identified, the second step of the installation process was missing, the problem would have gone on for a longer time than it did. In that case you blamed avsim and continue to blame me...yes I find your reaction laughable if not a bit childish at best! You maybe one of the top route developers and Ohio River maybe considered, by many including myself, as the premier route available for D/L, but your customer, user, skills suck! Now those of you who wish to flame me for my response are certainly welcomed to so!

RE: Ohio Rail Update: Ohio Rail 9.1 comes out today

Well thanks for that tear jerking not so heartfelt sentiment. Most of the folks I know have you all pegged wrong. I can't repeat what they say about you to me in public, but just know it's unrepeatable and very unkind. And know that every time they say what they do I feel that twinge of pain because I know only 99.99% of it is true. While I do get the impression you are looking to pick a fight every opportunity you get with me, know that while I am mired in all these nice emails, I know your accomplishments are so many that truly only you could really be the true hero of the train world. Why where else would a self-professing computer idiot as you say, have so little impact by doing so little except in proving what a jerk can be by shooting off his mouth about things he knows nothing about. There are fools like me who do think that actually putting in hours creating something is worthwhile though obviously the venom you spit is more so. I know in that little mind of yours you think you are achieving something in the bigger picture. Unfortunately my feeble little mind is only recording how on every aspect of this your assumptions you indeed wrong and without proven fact. So carry on ole blustery immenseness and do your duty for your song and country! Attack on, my old spiteful vengeful and with no integrity friend with your baseless charges and continue to delight in your meaness. But rather, if your so good at all these things which are of no value to anyone but yourself, why not actually do something instead of sitting around that chair of yours inventing fantasies? Then again, why am I wasting my time on someone so inconsequential, so full of his own virtue, so disliked by so many. Maybe you should call up your railroad friends from way way way back when and delight in the good old days. To me my good Don Quixote friend, your days nowadays, don't look so good.Pity yourself.

Bravo....Bravo....Bravo....Rich, your work speaks for itself and Mr. Shepley speaks for none of us. Your time can be spent in more productive ways than wasting it in a war of wits for which I'm sure all of us now realize you at least are well prepared for.

"Nebbish is from Yiddish nebekh, "poor, unfortunate"; of Slavic originnebbish \NEB-ish\, noun:
A weak-willed, timid, or ineffectual person. He is a nebbish who might be played effectively by Woody Allen. He attracts the sympathy of lower-echelon mammals but finds it difficult to relate to dogs and human beings.
--Evan Hunter, "American Mayhem, Soviet Intrigue," New York Times, October 9, 1983"Hmmmm....So you're feeling a little nebbish are you Shep....

NO Jim...not at all! I've not entered a popularity contest with Rich Garber. At no time, in any thread, have I ever said that Ohio Rail is not a wonderful route and that he is not a gifted developer, but have taken strong exception to his constant belittling of people who are less talented than, he when it comes to computer skills! I have never claimed to be anything but a "Computer Dummy" and I am not ashamed of acknoweledging the fact. For a short time, while able, I fielded many responses to questions asked of Rich that he would send to me via E-mail regarding operational problems with Activities. His constant harping about how stupid we "Computer Dummies" are finally wore thin and I removed myself, as I could no longer deal with his abrasive responses to people who were ASKING FOR HELP. You have seen one side of him and I have seen another! His lashing out at me, in a earlier response, or blaming me is his style and I will deal with it in a manner which I feel is suitable. Rich made an interesting point that I must agree with...my day (45 years in the railroad industry) has come and gone and has left me and my "Fellow Old Timers" the pleasure
of reminisining! Thank you for your response and question...I enjoyed both !

RE: Ohio Rail Update: Ohio Rail 9.1 comes out today

So you crawled out from under that rock of yours again. Lemme see if I understand you correctly. You are saying that you were so enraged by my behavior that you did this most honorable thing by quitting? Funny, I remember you saying you needed to have a leg cut off. In fact, if I did a search I think we could find the post from your son posted to that effect. Now let's look at this curious thing here that I've been watching. You been going on about my 'delusional tendencies:' A post from a few days ago you said you removed Ohio Rail from your computer at my request, but here you are apparently all fired up about a download you aren't going to make! And then you told us 'it ain't broke so don't fix it' was a nice way of saying you preferred the first install over the second. Yah, right. Then you went on to say it was because of your efforts the AVSIM problem got solved. Totally incorrect. Majorily incorrect. And I got the folks at AVSIM and the emails to prove it.Okay, so in this short time of a few weeks, we have all of this to thank you for. That's inspite of your computer stupidity, that's in spite of you even calling yourself a dislikeable person. So an ogre now calls himself pretty and we're all supposed to believe it! Okay, Don, whatever you say.. whatever you say... you know the old expression... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!But hey! You know how you go on about my wanting all this acceptance. Major thanks for all the effort you've gone through, to see just that very thing happen! Thanks to you I'm getting emails of support, posts of thanks, a solid outpouring of a wonderful sentiment. Hey thanks buddy! Keep it up because thanks to you my head is getting even bigger than it has ever been before!! LOL!!! Isn't life great!? Looking forward to your next bash.

RE: Ohio Rail Update: Ohio Rail 9.1 comes out today

It was suppose to come out today. Maybe later tonight I'll upload it. For sure tomorrow. This little stink of Shepley threw me off my rhythm for sure but mostly what slowed me up was I didn't know how to convert a 800x600 bmp to an ace file. I contacted Mr. Martin and he showed me the error of my ways. Now I can convert my bmp to an ace so I'm ready to go. The last few times I had to send the bmp off to Yuri Sos who would convert it for me. So I learned something new today. I'm really happy about this too because now it's time to make some MSTS opening screen shots of OHIO RAIL 2002!!!! Sorry, got carried away. Rich Garber

Of course I say this because I have a broadband connection and downloading 9.1 from avsim.com at 195KBytes a second took only a few minutes. I realize the 56K users aren't this lucky, but arent there many download managers these days that will allow you to download even a 40+ MB file in parts if you wish in the wee hours of the night when you're asleep. Yeah you'll have to wait til the next day to play with it but it's a small price.Nick

RE: Ohio Rail Update: Ohio Rail 9.1 comes out today

As mcuh as I hate to jump into this, I must take exception with one thing that Don wrote about Rich. That is that whenever I have e-mailed Rich with a question either about the route or an activity problem, he has been most courtesous and helpful.
I can say that when I write ANY developer I try to be as courtesous as possible in my communications - after all they are providing some great entertainment to us for free - and find that they are courtesous in return. (Imagine it works in e-mail and message boards the way it does in real life.)
I have noticed that in the past week or two, the behavior here on the Train-Sim boards has improved and we need to keep it going in that direction.
I am too much of a Train-Sim dummy to be creating routes or activities on my own and would hate to lose any more developers to flaming and discourteous comments and posts. So to all route, activity and other developers a very heart felt thank you and please keep up the excellent work you are posting for us to enjoy.Ken
