Hi all:I've read of a version of Marias Pass refered to as "MP3".Does anyone know what has been changed? Will it tamper with my default Marias Pass? Also, are changes significant enough to warrant the length of a modem download? Any input would be much appreciated.Andre Ming

RE: MP3?

I whole-heartedly agree with Kevin. Absolutely worth the download. I downloaded it via dial-up before I had cable access and never regretted it one bit.Ray

RE: MP3?

The best way to find out what is in the route is to go to the download area and click on View. That will allow you to download just the readme file, which contains details on the changes.Bob Siederer

RE: MP3?

Other Changes in MP3 include changing the signals to 'Searchlight' types, signals were moved to more protypical locations, adding mileposts at regular intervals so you can tell your location, and adding staging loops at both ends. I also believe the orphan helix of track near Coram was deleted.
I managed to download MP3 with a 33K modem in about two hours. I have cable now, so it could go faster. There are other ways to get the file; usually Readme files have a correspondence address or e:mail for the creators, and you could contact them, offer to pay duplication costs and mailing to send you the route on CD. Or, if you can disclose your snail-mail address (you can correspond on the forums via the 'private message' option to avoid Spammers) and offer to pay for mailing, I imagine that you could ask if anyone here on the forum has a CD burner and would be willing to mail you the file on CD. The file is freeware, and I believe the creators allow free distribution if proper credit and acknowledgment is attached.

RE: MP3?

People wonder about the worth of downloading MP3. Well, I wondered about the worth of uploading it for everyone using a 28.8 modem! Virtually everyone out there who got it did it faster than I could have put it out there!BTW, I have DSL now.Bob Siederer

RE: MP3?

Yup, it's definitly worth it. I DL'ed on a dial up. No probs. Most of the default problems corrected. You may have to DL a coupling fix. I am currently "exploring" the route in my recently DL'ed Big Boy but that is another story and maybe another post. BTW Big Boy is a must!

RE: MP3?

The main thing that was changed was the gradient of the route -- in the default MSTS route, there were some nasty grades which you couldn't always make. They'd break trains to pieces....Marias Pass 3.0 smoothed out the grades....made them more true-to-prototype. Signals were changed to the "searchlight" type from the three-lamp ovals. A few other minor changes, but overall, MP3 is MUCH more enjoyable as you don't have a disaster happen every time you try to run a train as with the default route.
