Before I even begin my next project, I want to make sure I have everything. This includes various decal sheets and paint. Now, I've hit a brick wall with some of the decals.I'm modeling the Knox & Kane's SY Mikado #58 (or 1658 as originally delivered...not the era I'm modeling it in) in HO scale based off a Bachman Sy Mikado (American version too boot! Next to no details need be added!)Now, those not familiar with the paint 58 wear's today, here's a picture of my problem area. Now, what in Blue blazes can i use to model the tender edging, with that little hook in it? Does anyone know of like a Microscale or similar set that has a Tender box I can chop at? Something similar even? Thanks in advance.

John One of two ways I can think of... 1 You should be able to do the lines and the corner "hook" sections in seperate pieces in Photoshop or PSP. 2 use a color photo of the tender and just play around with it sizewise until it prints out at the size you need then edit out all but the gold striping and then 3 This is what you'd do either way, print out the sheet in color as a master, get some blank (clear) decal film (you should be able to get this from your hobby shop in 8 1/2 x 11), take your decal film, your master sheet to your local Kinkos,Alphagraphics etc and have them color copy the master sheet on the decal film, the decal film is a bit flimsy so give it a shot or two of Dullcote or IIRC Microscale makes a product to toughen up decal sheets. I've done this on occasion or two when I needed a one off decal, I've got a model of a Space 1999 Eagle sitting on shelf right here that I did 3 or 4 years ago that the Moonbase Alpha logos that came with the kit were around 4 shy of the number on the studio models and just were horribly done the replacements that I made using the above method are still in place and still look good.Gary S

Find someone with one of those rare Alps MDS-5000 printer. With some careful work, you can fabricate a decal complete with the gold trim. Alps ribbons are thermowax and come in White, Metallic Gold, Silver, etc...SRV Ron
I have the ability to make my own decals, just I was hoping it would be something of a last resort.Or well, I'm off to Experiment with Microscale "o"s and LEF&C Left over stripes!
