Has anyone ever notice how similar the Russian Space Shuttle look to the USA Space Shuttle?

Yes, Buran is very similar to the US Space Shuttles. I believe only one was ever made in the USSR, and with the fall of the Soviet Union will probably never see flight again. Cannot remember if it has been put on permanent display or if it is simply in storage.Still, looks pretty impressive! Here is a link to the actual Buran:http://www.rosaviakosmos.ru/cp1251/photo/energija/energ1.htmIs this for FS-CofF? Thanks...Mykel

Thanks for that link Andy! I did not realize they were actually considering bringing the Russian shuttle back. Did that actually come out in 2001? Sheesh, must have been asleep. Suprised there has not been any further news since the Columbia accident.Mykel

RE: Mamma! Papushka! Mamma! My little papushka...

I have some news for you concerning the Buran. The Revival Project has been terminated, because RKA needs the money for the development of their new 6-seat "Clipper" spacecraft, which will eventually replace the Soyuz ships. One Buran is on display in Moscow (Gorky Park, IIRC), and another one (Number 2, several unmanned flights in the late eighties) is currently in Bahrain, and has been purchased by the Auto-, und Technikmuseum Sinsheim (Germany) It should be ready for display by 2008. The Museum at Sinsheim already has both a Concorde and a Tupolev-144 on display, among various other aircraft and cars.

Sad news . Would have been nice if they could have gotten it up and flying into space again.I thought the one at Gorky Park was a model? I remember seeing it once from the other side of the Moscow River and it did not look that big (shuttle size).Guess I will keep my fingers crossed that NASA gets the shuttles operating again. Thanks for the info!Mykel
