Gotta go with the penultimate fighter from the Grumman Iron Works, the F-14 Tomcat. It's big, it's beautiful, and it's a movie star. What more could you ask for? (Other than the F110 engine as opposed to the TF30, but I digress.) Runners up include the F-104 Starfighter and F-106 Delta Dart, with a special place carved out for the F-8 Crusader.Black Hawks, Thunderbolts, and Blackbirds aren't fighter aircraft by the way. A relative of the SR-71, the YF-12A, was a proposed fighter, but Robert S. McNamara seems to have killed it in favor of the F-111 and other things, such as Lyndon's Excellent Southeast Asian Adventure.

The RS-71 isn't a fighter. The A-12 was.My favourite is the F-104C."The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. I would say it would be a tie between the F-14 and F-15 (if they were on the poll). Of course if you are going to have the Mig-29, need to have the SU-27!Mykel

Yeah as was said beforeThe SR wasnt a fighter, the A-12 was the interceptor varient, but even then it wasnt successful. The Blackhawk is a chopper, the A10 is a GA and CAS plane.and you left out the F-8, F-4 and the century series of jets as well.

Naw, the YF-12 was the interceptor variant. The A-12 was used for a lot of things that the CIA doesn't like to talk about. The F-12 would have worked, sort of, but it was in competition with the F-111. That wasn't allowed in the McNamara DOD, so out it went. A book I've got on Lockheed's reconnaisance aircraft suggests that the F-12 would have been a fantastic interceptor with a fantastic weapon (AIM-47 Falcon) but that keeping them operational as stand-by interceptors would have been impossible. From what I understand, the SR-71/A-12/F-12 family were miserably complex to maintain.

My all-time favorite is not on the list, and it would be the F-4 Phantom II, arguably the greatest jet fighter produced by the West: not only was it rugged and reliable, but it could be adapted to a huge variety of roles and could carry a hefty payload: It also racked up an impressive combat record in Vietnam and the Arab-Israeli wars. Alas, it's time has passed. Now for new stuff, it'd be the F-22: expesive as hell, but the cost shows, considering the F-22 utterly owns everthing else currently flying...Jonathan Nikiforovs.

My favorite millitary aircraft isnt a jet. It is the Bell 212 "Huey" chopper. Im sure any Vietnam vets know what these are.
