I believe the Antonov 225 to be the biggest/heaviest jet in the world an225eva.zip.Can this bird fly? just!!!Aircraft designers please take note of the superb texture quality of this plane.Mike
Flaps! Trim! Never heard of em!I have a Logitech freedom 2.4 joystick, and when I want to take off, I push the throttle full forward, and pull the stick back hard. This results in dragging my ass on and along the runway until I take off; to illustrate this, I have used one of Erick Cantu's planes (727-200). In short, I drive my planes like my trains to destruction.Mike
>Well, for all its weight it is a very elegant aircraft in my >opinion. Beats everything the americans ever built in that >weight category.... What do you mean, the US doesn't have anything in that weight rating. The closest is of course the C-5 Galaxy but that is in a class with the AN-125 not the 225. Also flaps would help.

I remember seeing this in Russian markings, flying into Pearson International on a sceduled basis a few years ago. Wdnesday mornings around 11 am. The rumour used to be, that the plane was here to load up on chop shop auto parts ,to keep all the stolen Mercedes in Moscow, running! Huge plane, tho'PW

had one of NASA's Super Guppies in to KCNW (TSTC Waco, former Connally AFB) bringing in components for SOFIA, the infrared telescope they're putting into a 747SP. Big thing it is, but not on AN-124 or 225 scale. Chrysler/Raytheon/L-3 rebuilt C-5's out there for a while. so big they wouldn't fit into the hangar. remember driving around on the roads out there and seeing this gargantuan tail sticking out of the hangar.
Heres a comparison between the An-225 and the C-5B Galaxy, still the largest aircraft produced by the West. As should be readily apparent, the An-225 is in a size/weight class all by itself... SPECIFICATIONS (data for C-5B in brackets):LENGTH: 84.0m (75.3m) WINGSPAN: 88.4m (67.9m) HEIGHT: 18.2m (19.8m) EMPTY WEIGHT: 227,730kg (169,640kg) MAX. TAKEOFF WEIGHT: 600,000kg (380,000kg) CARGO VOLUME: 1,410m³ (1,155m³) MAX. CARGO WEIGHT: 250 tons (135 tons) ENGINES: 6 x Lotarev D-18T turbofans (4 x General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans) MAX. TOTAL THRUST: 140,220kg (78,182kg) MAX. SPEED: 850km/h (834km/h) MAX. UNREFUELED RANGE: 15,400km (12,930km) Jonathan Nikiforovs. Milepost 180, CP Belleville Sub.

>the An-225 is in a size/weight class all by itself... Except that the Galaxy is a production aircraft - comparison is moot even if they had the same specs. Also efficiency is key, especially in regards to fuel consumption and where to land the thing.Cheers! Marc - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.comPro Series v4.0 SuperPacks
>Except that the Galaxy is a production aircraft - comparison >is moot even if they had the same specs. Also efficiency is >key, especially in regards to fuel consumption and where to >land the thing. Therefore I'll compare the C-5 to a more appropriate aircraft, the An-124 which of course is the only equivilent to the C-5 anywhere in the world: The An-124 is still larger and has greater cargo capacity (mostly thanks to it's fatter fuselage), but the overall differences in size aren't really all that much... SPECIFICATIONS (data for C-5B in brackets):LENGTH: 69.1m (75.3m) WINGSPAN: 73.3m (67.9m) HEIGHT: 20.8m (19.8m) EMPTY WEIGHT: 175,000kg (169,640kg) MAX. TAKEOFF WEIGHT: 405,000kg (380,000kg) CARGO VOLUME: 1,270m³ (1,155m³) MAX. CARGO WEIGHT: 150 tons (135 tons) ENGINES: 4 x Lotarev D-18T turbofans (4 x General Electric TF39-GE-1C turbofans) MAX. TOTAL THRUST: 93,480kg (78,182kg) MAX. SPEED: 865km/h (834km/h) MAX. UNREFUELED RANGE: 16,500km (12,930km) Jonathan Nikiforovs. Milepost 180, CP Belleville Sub.
