I have decreed that Christmas is to be banned

I apologise for any inconvenience caused, but I hate it so much that I have banned it.The Christ-mass has become the "Shopmass" and the "Iwantmass", and has little bearing on the true spirit of Christmas. What is so offensive is that people "celebrate" the very antithesis of the true spirit of Christmas, and to add insult to injury they purloin the Christ's name for their own hedonism: it is the most selfish day of the year, where anything but the real Christmas spirit is shown.Mike

>I think you are wrong. What about Toys for Tots? What about the Salvatoion army? What about the thousands of Christmas padjet and Christmas choir shows that goes on in Churches all across the country? What about families getting together, talking, laughing, and playing? What about the story of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ? I think you're just looking at one aspect of it.

sad that a religous holiday has been explotted to death. Look the country club I work at. Chirstmas parties left and right not to mention we are overloaded on work.

I don't celebrate X-mas. All this buying people gifts, putting up stuff just to take it down again, making food that nobody eats and yadda yadda yadda.
I think it's a waste of time and money, there are other more important things to do, like playing MSTS. /JonatanSteam rules!

Right on!
First off let me clarify that I consider myself an atheist.
I am,however not one of these hypersensetive,looking to be offended ones that goes screaming at the mere mention of God.
Christmas is a religious holiday but it also has become a secular holiday as well.
I do wish people a Merry Christmas or Happy Haunika(sp? it's early OK)not the PC Happy Holidays and to tell the truth get a little annoyed at those "offended" by Christmas carols(suck it up and get over it)and decorations(There's the nativity scene for the Christians,the minorah for the Jews,Frosty,Santa,etc for the secular and over on the side a great big nothing for us atheiests so they got the bases covered).
Yes there is a lot of commercialisim of Christmas but there is also a lot of giving,the wife and I donate to the Salvation Army,Toys for Tots and for the last couple of years the USO and several other groups aimed at helping out the troops and their families.Gary S

I agree! It seems most holidays these days are becoming more about "marterial" things than what they should be for.Personally, my only intesets in Christmas is being able to spend time with the family. As for gifts, would rather do without them, as well as all the mind-numbing commercials. Mykel

It would seem that no one is forcing you to shop, no one is forcing you to do this or that. The x-mas holiday is truly what you want it to be. We won't be home for x-mas, as always, we will be at my wife's parents house in Maryland, but I put the tree up anyway, so my little girl could help me, and so I could see her eyes light up at the sight of it all. When you drive around and you see people that have gone out of thier way to make thier hous the best on the block, that is the spirit of the season. There are a lot of commercial flaws with the holiday, no doubt, but giving and recieving gifts is just one of those things that have been around for as far back as we know of. Shopping, putting up the trees, baking, and cooking, it is just all part of the holiday season, when you come together with your family by a warm fire and watch your children open wonderful gifts. As you grown older Mike, and have a family, you will truly understnad the meaning of it all, and just how wonderful this time of the year can be.Chris Bogley

I ought to have taken the precaution of stressing--for reasons that I don't fully understand--that the train-sim community appears to have a well-developed "sense" of Christian responsibility, and that my comments were not intended as a reflection upon them, but merely to illustrate how (in the UK at least) people have lost the values that Chris was talking about.I would never dream of depriving Chris and his little girl the wholesome pleasure that you and other well-brought families have each year--that's what I want preserved!Some of you may or may not understand or sense the "palpable" lack of good will that appears every Christmas--in spite of the so-called celebrations at that time.Very few people have an ordered sense of "God" let alone any developed moral structure, which is why it is so important to have a a wholesome fundamental basis for celebrating whether it be the birth of Jesus, the fellowship of man, or just the sanctity of family. So Christmas is back on then.Mike PS: What about renaming Christmas Winterval? Ok,OK it was just a thought

Cost of time and material invested in a HO scale SD 45 that your younger brother ran of the end of the bar in the basement at age 16 cuz it sounded cool.......150.00Cost of several first generation video game systems and game carts sold for "beer money" by your younger brother..... 300.00Cost of Hokey Pokey Elmo for youngest Niece....19.95Cost of Barney Dance Dance Revolution for older Niece.....19.95
First installment of payback for all the diliberate theft and destruction of your belongings by a younger sibling who got away with it because "You should have known better than to just leave such and such lying around because he's the youngest"..........Priceless
