>Thanks. Well, I don't believe in the death penalty at all,
>because in my opinion, killing someone for killing somebody
>else makes you as bad as them. I say he shouldn't be
>executed, but the rest of his life should be living hell.
Oh and I guess killing his wife and an UNBORN Child. A Child that has nothing agaisn't anyone, that hasn't done a damn thing to ANYONE, should not be avenged. You know Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. non-violence protest can only go so far. Sometimes you need to have an eye for an eye. I dare you to go and talk to victims of murder, the family, friends, and co-workers, and see how they feel. Guess what, Scott Peterson killed a pure human being. An unborn child that has not sin or done any wrong is pure. And he killed that pureness. As far as I am concern he has no soul. Since he has no soul, I say hang him and send him to Hell.

Please don't talk down to me for having a an opinion. I agree with you totally on all points, but I believe that killing a person who has harmed another human being makes you as bad as them. I think he is an evil, evil man, and he should suffer for what he has done. But should we really sink to his level and take his life?As for your point on the unborn child, I absolutely agree, What has a child done wrong? Nothing. The man is absolute scum.

RE: YES!

Yes, I agree also. Executing justice on a murderer does not make you as bad as him. However, it is the job of the Government to administer such penalties. For those of you who think the death penalty is not right, what about the sentence that Lori and her unborn child received from Scott? Was that fair? We need to start caring more about fairness to the victims of these kinds of crimes rather than just the people who commit them. I.e. how would you feel if you were in Laci's or her family's place?

RE: YES!

My only regret is that Cali has dropped the gas chamber, lethal injections too easy for this sh**.
I also got tired of hearing about his family saying what really nice guy Scott is(ok so there's this whole killing his wife and son thing but geeze anyone can have a bad day).
Hopefully we in Illinois will have the hot shot up and running in time for the two dirtbags that killed all the people in the Browns Chicken resturant here in Palatine back in the 90s.Gary S

RE: YES!

Here's my view on the issue. I believe that anybody that premeditatedly kills another human being without provocation does not think like a human being but thinks like a monster. If they are capable of doing it once, they'll do it again. So I believe that imposing the death penalty is nothing more than self-defense for society and not anywhere near a "state-sanctioned murder." Some may argue that they won't be a threat to society anymore in prison, but somebody that commits the kind of grotesque murders that are being committed today (remember from last month that woman that hacked her baby's arms off) doesn't deserve our tax dollars to sustain them in prison. The Peterson case is especially troubling to me. Not only did this monster kill his wife, he murderded an innocent baby that couldn't have had anything against him. Very disturbing indeed. However, I really could care less about the fate of monsters like Mr. Peterson and I personally wouldn't lose much sleep if he is sentenced to life in prison. Prison isn't a country club, after all.

>Give him the chair! For a crime like this, lethal injection
>isn't justified, too quick, too painless. Atually, it isn't painless at all; far from it.
Potassium is a metallic, inert chemical; potassium chloride is the salt of poatassium after it has reacted with hydrochloric acid. In small doses, this is an essential chemical as it's important for muscle tone and action, which is why when one has become dehydrated when working hard in the sun for a number of hours, they can endure excruciatingly painful muscle cramps, due to their electrolyte balence being counterbalenced by the potassium loss.
However, when injected intravenously in large doses, it burns and hurts like there's no tomorrow (pardon the pun), because of the fact that it's a salt and it instantly causes a chemical imbalence of the blood when it comes into contact, ergo, it makes all the muscles contract in an extreme way that will cause considerable pain, howerver, not enough time is given to affect all of the muscles. Remember, the heart is a muscle too and it pumps blood, the minute that huge dose affects the heart, it's lights out.
Let me tell you also, in lethal injections, three chemicals are used to kill. Firstly, sodium pentothal (thiopental sodium). A minute later, pavulon is injected. Another minute after the second chemical, is the potassium chloride. Pentothal is a short acting barbituric acid, a barbiturate used in anaesthesia, which is used in narconalysis, so it does knock you out. It is a curare derivative which locks the lungs, so one is unble to breath.
So, in short, you're knocked out by the thiopental, can't draw breath due to the pavulon and can't scream in pain when the burning potassium is injected, while your heart is having the mother of all cramps. So, because of one being 'out', it looks like the prisoner is being put to sleep like a golden labrador in vet clinic, which is what it's meant to look like.
I don't know how some people will react to my post, but I just felt like saying this. I don't post often, so when I do, I'm serious about it.
Hmmm...Tonka.

I heard that back in the days of firing squad, there was like one gun that had the bullet (usually handled by an excellent marksman) and the rest would be firing blank. That way the prisoner wouldn't know who shot him, or his family and friends. The hood serves the same purpose back when they used Ax and the other instrument that I can't spell. Do they still contiune the tradition today?

Do they still contiune the tradition today? The reason for the blanks on the firing squad was so that none of the marksmen would know who actually fired the fatal shot. It was so that they could share moral responsibility for the execution. I saw a show on Court TV once where they showed a modern lethal injection chamber in some state (I think it might of been New York but I'm not sure). There would be 2 executioners in a room and whenever the warden gave the signal, they would each press a button that would deliver a signal to a computerized intravenous apperatus to start delivering the lethal drugs. But only one of the buttons actually transmitted the signal and a computer made it random so that each time an execution is carried out, none of the executioners know who pressed the button that told the apperatus to start delivering the drugs. That way, they could share the moral responsibility.

RE: Death penality ?

They had to quit using the computer though and go back to injecting the chemicals by hand. They were carrying out this one execution and the computer injected the chemicals at too high of a pressure for the condemned person's veins. As a result, the IV popped out of the dude's arm and they had to start the whole procedure over again in front of a very shocked audience. They said on the show that if a person is actually pushing the plunger, they can "feel" the back-pressure and lower the injection force in order to ensure that all of the chemicals get into the condemned person's veins.

Its wrong to kill people but its right to kill people that kill people??? Killing the person who did the crime isn't going to help solve the problem...sure what he did was wrong, what what makes it right to say that it is right for us to kill him, but not for him to kill his wife (I'm sure he had a reason, just like THEY have a reason to kill him...?)Now, I don't know enough about what happend so I'll leave it there...Adam

In the United States, that's what we call murder. Now, the reasons that society has for killing him are made valid by Mr. Peterson's actions. First of all, he needs to be punished for what he did. Second of all, Laci's family deserves to have closure. And third, and most importantly, we need to make sure that there is absolutely no possibility that Mr. Peterson will ever harm anybody again.

Of course no one deserves to be killed, but in a case here recently a man was taunted and provoked by his wife. He murdered her...probably because of the taunts. The same thing could have happened in this case, with some people there is only so far you can push before they snap. I agree he needs to be PUNISHED, being killed isn’t punishment, he won't suffer for his crime. He will be killed and that’s that, he won't have to live with guilt (if he has any) and being locked up in prison for life would give them a long time to think about what’s happened. Also the death of the criminal would give closure to the family, but so would knowing that he is locked up for good and won't be out again. Considering that prison breakouts ant a particularly common event, I would say someone locked in prison for life won't ever harm anybody again. Really the death penalty isn't needed...that just my opinion. Australia doesn’t have it and isn’t crawling with criminals and serial killers...Adam

He murdered her...probably because of the taunts.I totally agree with you that somebody that commits a murder that was provoked shouldn't be punished as harshly as a cold, calculated killer. But what you may not know is that Mr. Peterson also murdered an unborn baby, who could have done NOTHING to provoke an reaction as violent as the one that Mr. Peterson carried out. Therefore, I feel that even if he was provoked by his wife, he had absolutely no excuse to murder his unborn son, Conner. I respect your stance on capital punishment and acknowledge that you have a right to your opinion. As I have stated in an earlier post in this thread, while I would prefer that Mr. Peterson dies for his crimes, I would also feel that some justice has been served if he gets life in prison. Then, he could live out the rest of his life confined to a cold, dark cell, forever haunted by his guilty conscience. As long as he isn't prowling the streets in search of his next victim, I would be satisfied.

Should Scott Peterson receive the death penalty? – image 34

I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Peterson has no Conscience. How did I come to that conclusion? He killed an unborn child! I mean you can't possibly kill something as pure, so little and defenseless unless you don't have any conscience. If he did had a conscience, he wouldn't killed the child. As far as I'm concern he doesn't have a conscience and I say hang him high.
'nuff said.

No, we (the government) should not execute Mr. Petersen,We should put him in prison, AMONG THE GENERAL POPULATION.That way all this hand wringing in here about the death penalty being unfair and barbaric becomes a MOOT point. “GASP” even painful!Get a grip folks, we are talking about people that kill for fun, and some one says it MIGHT HURT TOO MUCH?In my book, after seeing what some of these animals do to their victims IT CANT hurt ENOUGH in my book. I think we should punish people in the same way they treat their victims. They kill in a hail of gunfire; THEY die in a hail of gunfireThey chop up their victim, THEY get chopped up They stab someone to death, THEY get stabbed to deathThey rape and strangle/stab/shoot their victim, Guess what happens to them?We will treat them with the same degree of humanity they treated their victims. But……………I must admit, a prison at an Alaska doing HARD LABOR the rest of their life with no TV, no mail from home, NO NOTHING but bread water and a blanket, is an enticing idea Andy J Should Scott Peterson receive the death penalty? – image 35 http://www.blueridgerails.com/

That way, they'll be 5,000 miles from the civilized world and won't be able to hurt anybody again. If they do manage to escape, they'll just become a frozen TV-dinner for a polar bear.

RE: Conscience? WHAT Conscience?

The easy way out? Sure, lets put them in a prison that is totally supported by taxes, where they get 3 meals a day, a roof over their heads, a gym to work out in and a library to read and not have to worry about paying taxes, or working a full time job. No thanks, I can think of better things to spend tax money on. Now if they had to do "hard labor" to earn their keep and actually did something to help improve society, then I would see no problem in it. But in most prisons today that does not happen. At least if you execute someone, they aren't going to be a burden on society anymore or put society in danger should they get out in the future.Mykel

AndyPrisons should operate at a profit!Agreed on one condition, that cheap prison labor not compete with freemarket jobs held by law abiding citizens, some states have prison labor making items that state goverment uses.BTW It does look like ol Scotty's going to be smoking a turd in hell(to paraphrase Robin Williams)Gary S

Why does the lethal injection have to be malicious?

At one time or another most of us have taken a dying beloved pet to the vet to be put to sleep. The dog or cat is given a huge overdose of barbiturate--they don't feel a thing; in fact, that's how I would like to go when the time comes. So why the convoluted and complicated setup of a chemical plant when it comes to putting a murderer to sleep? I have heard of accounts of the condemned prisoner gasping for breath with his eyes popping out before convulsing into death. Mike *rushes to the bathroom*

Read my 1st post above (somewhere) on the description of the chemical reaction. I've even heard peopl saying that with some of the condemned, their facial expressions look like as if a 1 tonne mass has just suddenly dropped on their ribs. They might've (and a strong maybe at that) messed up on the barbiturates. It's kinda like in an operation when you haven't been given enough anaesthetic and you're actually semi-conscious during the operation and yes, it HAS happened...more than once.
Anyway, just to let you know.Tonka.

Well Scott Peterson has just been condemed to death. The reason the jurors gave was that it was a PLANNED murder.

>Which is the main reason why he deserves to be put to death. Well, actually that's a condition that controls whether the death penalty will be considered. The reason (IMO) there is a death penalty is not to punish the criminal, nor to ensure he won't be returned to society (life in prison w/ no parole is usually far worse) is for society to express it's collective revulsion at certain types of crimes.Yeah, you can call it revenge if you want, but sometimes something is done that is really, really awful, something that sets the crime apart from all others. Murdering your wife, 7.5 months pregnant with your son, on Christmas eve, so you can run off with your mistress (to whom you've lied to about everything), seems to be one. Consider the dead womans mother who asked "Why kill her when divorce was always an option"? Here they are....Dave NelsonWP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 100% complete;
