Mistakes? What mistakes? The signature characteristic of this administration is their philosophy that you never, ever admit that you've done anything that wasn't absolutely correct. Mistakes are what other people and other administrations do. Bush (or more likely, Rove) wants no one in the administration that will go against the boss's message. It may make it easier to control what the public hears, but it's not a very good way to run a democracy.Andy

Cabinet turnovers occur in every admin particularly in two term admins.
I do find it interesting that the same people complaining that Bush is surrounding himself with yes men had no problem with the Clinton admin appointing folks that agreed with Clinton's agenda.
Try to remember back to early 01,Bush did try to reach across the aisle to work with Democrats and got stabbed in the back for his efforts(the senior senator from Mass. comes to mind).
To be honest I'm getting a bit tired of the double standards I've been seeing(not from either of you)particularly when Dr Rice was given the nod for the sec state posistion of blatently racist pollitical cartoons and comments from liberal talk hosts aimed at Ms. Rice that would in no way be tolerated if said comments or cartoons were aimed at a liberal appointee by a conservitive source,in my opinion a racist is a racist and is just as undefenseable no matter what side of the political fence you come from.Gary S

I know there is usually a big turnover going into the second term; I just think the wrong one is leaving.With Arafat gone from the scene, I think Colin maybe sees a golden opportunity to make some real progress (hence, his offer to stick around) between Israel and the PLO. Alas, we’ll never know what he might have accomplished.Which brings up his replacement, Ms. Rice. Personally, I think she has about as much creditability as a bucket of puss. When she accidentally referred to President Bush as ‘my husband’, well, what is going on in her little head? E-Gads, she doesn’t even have a husband! She can’t even tell a lie with a straight face. Whenever she was on the Sunday morning news programs you knew it was getting deep when her voice began to quiver.Anyway, I think Colin may have had a much better chance than Condi in these pesky negotiations to come. This is all conjecture on my part, neither of them have stopped over for a beer in quite some time.Rumsfeld, what can I say? I think that old coot has his head so far up his arse he couldn’t tell a battleship from a broomstick. I do miss his smartass news conferences though.More at 10Bob

Personally if they just fired Dick, then I would've been happy. Colin Powell leaving is sad really. You got to remember, President Bush while he may be the man in charge, alone hes like your next door neighbor. I mean thats it. But the people underneath him are the one I'm scared of. Espically Dick.
