Went railfanning – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Nov-27-04 AT 09:03 AM (EST)

Yesterday me and my crew of railfans took our big day long trip up to Northeast and Erie, PA. got a lot of 35mm shots, a lot of video, and a few digital pics. Had MOW crews talking about us...probably because we chased this Hi-Rail from 20-30 Miles... Things started slowing down so we left around 8:30. Bagged our first buck of the year on the way home too...Pictures:Went railfanning – image 2

Used some of that fake spray snow (which held up REALLY well) to put Conrail on the car. Yes! Went railfanning – image 6
Thats "us" minus me, I'm taking the picture.-Fast forward to 9:30ish-Went railfanning – image 7
Doing the limit (55ish) down the highway just out of Union City, and this deer steps 2 feet in front of the car.Went railfanning – image 8
Not that that worried us.Went railfanning – image 9
Note that although the car needs a new radiator, hood and battery mount, the Conrail markings are still in one piece! State Police arrived and said we could drive it since it didn't appear to be leaking anything. About 40 Miles up the road the radiator blew and we were just dumping coolant, with this HUGE cloud behind us. Coming up the hill out of Oil City the temp gauge went right to the red...this is where we had to call the tow truck.
Went railfanning – image 10Explaining the Conrail markings to the tow truck drivers, the state police, and the security gaurd at GE was a little...interesting....but the CSX MOW crew picked up on it. "Uhhh...Got some guys here in a Conrail car?" "Yeah, Railroader's America"

LMAO, that must have been cool driving around in that, imagine getting an old Red Pontiac Tempest and putting the CPRail logo and the multimark and the roadnumbers and all the other stuff on there, now that would be fun.Mike

Hey John!!I went dear hunting three weeks ago.
But my deer exploded on impact.
Fortunately, what was left, went under (which made for a somewhat bumpy ride, not to mention the control difficulty) and not over or into the hood. A new hood would have been another three or four K.
Just a new Radiator, Air to air after cooler, AC condenser and a bumper.
Three and a half days, and $5500 later…, “On the road again….”.With a little bruised pride though…, I still need to get the (primer gray) bumper painter. Then we'll look like we should (last pic).Glad y’all made it out Have a sparkling day.
Bob

RE: Went railfanning

I ran over what I thought was a dog back in the mid 90's up in Northern Idaho in my semi. Pulled over to check on him, and upon reaching the animal I discovered it was not a dog, rather a pretty ticked off and very much alive Wolverine. Never seen one in person, ugly looking dude. His legs were broken, so about all he could do was make ugly faces. Not wanting to leave him there for dead, I put him out of his misery.Chris Bogley

Went railfanning – image 38
It's either going to be this or painted up like the General Lee, I've already got a confederate plate.
Went railfanning – image 39
Now you ought to get one of these, a honda pulled out infront of me 2 weeks ago and I rear ended it at 15, destoyed her back bumper and taillight, but no damage here.

Honestly, I have thought about that many times.>Nice choice in drivers
Gracias, they look good, no maint, for the rims, and the rims were dirt cheap, try about $35 each, they might have gone up as now every other Jeep around here is sporting them. I got them here http://www.quadratec.com Of course the tires are good old BFG All Terains with the white wall on the insideMember of The Cienega HS Republican Club
