You may be close. It was developed to be deployed against Soviet fighters to protect the long range bombers. The concept was cancelled because it was found to be next to impossible to recover the aircraft while in flight.Edit, The flying wing is a prototype of the one tested in the 50s. The twon counter rotating pusher prop version, powered using conventional piston engines, suffered from premature gear shaft failure. Jet engines gave it more power and speed while reducing the overall weight of the aircraft. It was scrapped because the prototypes could not fly accurately enough or fast enough to be used for high allitude bombing. The design was scrapped until modern technology and computer assisted flying allowed it to be reborn as the Stealth Bomber.The Rescue 1 was developed to provide a longer range personal flight platform to replace the rocket suit.
