LAST EDITED ON Nov-22-04 AT 07:05 AM (EST)

There's been a lot of good ones lately.1)Half-Life 2:Only had it for a couple of days but it's living up to expectations.Awesome graphics and atmosphere. The Steam system of installation and registration sucks.2)MOH: Pacific Assault:Excellent graphics with really sweet models.Killer AI.A couple of annoying missions though in the cockpit of a Dauntless.3)FarCry:Amazing engine with very tough AI.Might be the nicest looking game out there.Lot's of freedom in how one finishes a mission.Lame plot.4)Vietcong and Fist Alpha:This one's getting old now,but still looks great.Thick jungle with tough AI.Some of the best missions I've ever played in a FPS.Controllable teammates.Best aiming system in my opinion. And it has a quick fight generator that lets you fight as the US or VC.5)Doom3:True to the originals with a killer engine and excellent audio. This game has some truly scary moments.I got bored once I got to Hell though.

RE: Favorite First Person Shooters

If you don't have it for Unreal Tournament, download OperationNaPaliVersion120.zip 162meg download. This is a free program. This installs in the GOTY Edition which must be updated to the latest version. (updates and oldschool patch are in the 4 CD set or available from the web site. This is a single player first person shooter add on for UT. It has lots of movie cuts scattered in to aid game play and add to the story line. (You will fall to your death if you are not running across the bridge when the movie cut of the Skari bombing the bridge starts.) You actually have AI friends that will join you and, depending how you handle a fight, will greatly aid you in battle. They do accept orders such as protect an area or follow you.It will take several hours to play through the entire mission. (You can save several slots at any time.)SRV Ron

Now that's a classic.Shadow Warrior, made by the same folks, using the same engine was also a lot of fun.

RE: Favorite First Person Shooters

Painkiller. You do need to go to the web site in order to learn how to complete various levels that you can get stuck in. (There are some puzzles to solve in order to defeat certain baddies. Example, the boss vampire cannot be killed unless he is standing in the light. You need to shoot the boards in the ceiling pentagram in order to allow light into the cavern, then lead him onto the plank over the lava pit. The trick is to avoid being swatted off the plank into the lava pit as you shoot him.)Lots of scary sound. Realistic ground fog and wild weapons. Be sure to download the patch to the game if you are having problems getting it to work. (Requires a high end system and the latest DirectX and graphic card drivers.) Lots of puzzles to solve to find and reach various easter egg powerups. Also, Serious Sam Second Encounter. Huge levels, lots of humerous Easter Eggs, some very fast and furious fights in some of the wildest conditions like a gravity cylender with hoppers everywhere or a bounce room full of screaming beheaded bombers. The last level, if you make it out of the forteress to outside where you can see the cathedral, A storm starts brewing and fire and brimstone starts raining down from the sky as hundreds of bad guys start charging from all directions.SRV Ron

I'm into alot of first person shooters... mostly Half-Life 2 right now, even though it stutters really badly, making it almost impossible to play...I played Call of Duty (UO as well) before that, which I do like... however the campaign sucks ass... too little content. I mostly enjoy WW2 shooters... I enjoyed BF1942, however the load times are really annoying and the weapons are quasi-realistic at best. The BAR feels like a tommy gun, the engineers don't get an M1 Garand enough of the time and the K98 sucks... way too inaccurate. Those rifles were hailed as very accurate, especially at long range.I've never played any of the Medal of Honour games... I might try it out some time though. I'm active in Day of Defeat as well, actually I'm in a clan for it. I don't play often right now, only for matches really.

Thankfully the stuttering problem that many folks are having with Half-Life 2 isn't effecting gameplay for me.It's there, but barely noticeable.I strongly suggest Medal of Honoracific Assault. You'll like it.
