I was looking into having my mom get me an MP3 player for christmas this year. What do you guys reccomend for brands? I am totally new to this MP3 thing and am looking for advice. Also, can you tell me good websites and/or stores that sell the good ones. I don't want to be stuck with a cheepo. Thanks, -Dave

I know nothing about MP3 players so I checked on the Consumer Reports web site.#1...iRiver iFP-790 $180#2...Creative MuVo TX FM $150These are flash memory players, whatever that means. I 'think' it doesn't read a disk but plays it from memory so if you fall down a flight of stairs it won't skip on the way down. Also says it can record from FM. Too bad you didn't have this earlier, you could have listened to all the Yankee's playoff games over and over. Twins WILL rule in 05!My ex-brother-in-law recorded two CD's for me, country & western in MP3 format, over 500 songs and they sound great. That's all I know.Bob

Just to add to that, I just bought an iRiver IFP-799 (it's the 1GB model) and I really like it. It has USB2, FM Tuner/FM Record, Line in/Mic record, and it plays MP3/WMA/Ogg files and will encode at up to 320kb. At 128kb, it's good for about 17 hours record/playback. The only drawback is its interface is quite complex and a few of the buttons have multiple functions and navigating through all the different menus can be challenging. It took me about 2 days to get comfortable with it.
Dell DJ, iPod... The DJ runs about $200 I think. My clickwheel 20GB iPod went for about $299. The DJ has similar capacity to the iPod.Have a nice day -Mike
