Its time to list your favorite aircraft that the armed forces use to protect our wonderful nation! Mine would have to be the A-10 Warthog! It may be ugly, and it may be slow, but it got alot of fire power! If you want to see what this bad boy can do, go to google and search "Highway of Death" Also this aircraft can take on several enemies fire and still keep flying! Heck it can have one of its engine blown out and it'll keep on flying. The nickname for this bird? The Flying Tank! The A-10 Firepower Hoo Rah! Favorite Militatry Aircrafts? – image 2

I can't possibly choose just one.All of the above are favorites.I was having fun with this B-25 today.8 50 cal's(ten if you include the upper turret) and a 105mm gun in the nose is a wonderful thing.

>exactly. Show me a modern plane that can take that abuse and
>still fly, and we'll talk!
Hmmm since this thread was resurected from the dead, I join in. Actually , you would eat your words if you saw the program on the history channel about the Israeli F-15 that landed without a wing. Seriously, 1 WING! The engineers are still scratching their heads. None the less that B-17 is still a favorite.Since I can't name one favorite, I'll just say the one that impressed me most at an airshow. The B-1 bomber, known as the BONE. That thing rumbled my insides like no other aircraft I have ever seen, and I've seen them all. If the afterburners didn't impress you, the silence as it approaches at 600 mph is so incredible. The man standing next to me turned with a look of amazment and said, "I would pay all the money I have to watch that all day long."

RE: Favorite Militatry Aircrafts?

You know I just was thinking about what has been said regarding not building stuff like they used too. My statics and physics professor is a retired aerospace engineer. He worked on the SR71 blackbird and the F18 Hornet. He always gets off topic in class and we talk about trains, planes and ice hockey. He had noted one day that older planes were over engineered. There were huge safety factors built in to aircraft design. Planes built today aren't built like that because of computer modeling. Accurate computer models have cut alot of that excess stuff out of the designs. This is probably the reason why we think of old aircraft being so rugged.Note: This guy worked at Area 51 and swears there are no aliens there. Just really cool planes. Then he informed me that we would both be shot if he said any more. I think he was somewhat serious too.

>Note: This guy worked at Area 51 and swears there are no aliens
>there. Just really cool planes.Fun fact: The "Area 51" bas was originally created to test the U-2 spy plance, and in it's early days it was called "Watertown Strip". the designation "Area 51" was given to the base by the Atomic Energy Comision who set up a facility there in the '60, but that name was officially dropped in the late '70s: The military now apparently refers to it as the "Groom Lake Installation" (after the name of the dry lakebed on which the base rests), or simply "Groom Lake".Jonathan Nikiforovs.
