Most disgusting, worse tasting foods

A while back, we had a thread on our favorite foods, but after having breakfast today, the idea was born to find out what are some of the least favorite foods out there. Here are a few....1) Burger King Double crossiant sandwich - BK should not even offer up breakfast, but I am a sucker for big sandwiches. This thing just sucked badly. Thier eggs and sausage taste like they came out of the microwave..oh wait, they did! The worse thing I have had in a long time.2) Wing Stop's Wings - Hard to believe a place that makes it's living off of wings could suck so badly at it. Went to the local Wing Stop (there are around 200 nation wide, mostly in Texas) and they were just awful. So overdone in seasoning that you couldn't even enjoy what you were suppose to be tasting. Same true with the fires, just overloaded with salt and seasoning. Yuck!3) KFC's Potato wedges - I can remember back when KFC had some terrific fries, then they decide to say the hell with it, and switch to the god awful potato wedges. 4) Burger Kings Fries. What the hell is this! Same as with KFC, they had some great fries once, then they said the hell with it.5) Arby's Homestyle Fries - Following the morals of BK and KFC, once great fries get a makeover and now will forever steer clear of my belly.6) Dunkin Donuts Glazed Doughnut - And no, its not because I use to work for Krispy Kreme, truth be told I often go to DD for a cruller, or 2 or 3. But the DD glazed is so freaking dry, and barely has any glaze on it at all.7) and speaking of doughnuts, Krispy Kreme's Crueller. Do you know what a crueller is folks? It is french doughnut more or less. I have had several different cruellers over the years, and one thing is always the same. They are big. The doughnut rises high above the others, except at KK. They are as flat as flat can be and the taste reflects it, unless your lucky enough to sample one hot off the line at 2am like i use to be able to do.Chris Bogley

I'll bite (pun un-intended)1. McDonalds. EVERYTHING. I used to inhale this crap as a child cause my parents would bring me their to shutup but now that I'm older, I've come to realize that this crap will probably give me 3 different kinds of cancer and numerous heart-attacks by the time I'm 40. I haven't eaten McD's for 2 years and still counting. Nothing from them at all... except a coke... I was thirsty.2. Harvey's. Ok, this isn't really a food complaint per se. I love the food, it tastes great. However, I think they try to pile WAY too much onto a tiny little bun. Everytime I've eaten there, the damn thing just falls apart in my lap... its a struggle just to keep it in one or two pieces. Tastes great though.3. Wendy's. This one as well isn't a food complaint, but rather a price complaint. I love their burgers, mostly the fries but the prices are astronomical. Cost me nearly $15 for two combo's. Cheapest ones on the menu. Bah.4. Tim Hortons. I don't care what people say regarding "Canada's Best Coffee" and what not, but I find it tastes like burned up, dried out, un-stirred crap. I'll only have Tim Hortons in a pinch or if someone else is buying, usually I prefer Second Cup or Coffee Time... Country Style is good as well. The Boston Creams at Tim's are putrid. Blech.5. KFC. The classic sandwiches used to be the king of all chicken sandwiches... but in the last year or so, they've taken on a whole new persona. The chicken... it tastes like dried crap. I think they use the 2 day old left overs from the bucket chicken or something. The buns they use are always stale and hard. Ew.Ok thats all I can think of for now.

I agree, McDonalds EVERYTHING! How do people eat that crap. I will admit though I love their fries.Talk about nasty.. Burger King Angus Burger. Ugh.

To add to the rest of the list above and below...Hooter's Wings. My god. What a horrible creation. Greasy, breaded, mildly flavoured chicken left-overs. Ugh. Gotta love the atmosphere, but next time I'm bringing in wings from the bar across the street! DanAbsolute power corrupts absolutely.

Denny's, it all sux the big one. In fact the last two times I have had to eat at one, I was sick the next day. From now on if I go somewhere there is only a Denny's, I will just go hungry.Regards,

I HATE McDonalds, KFC, Arby's, the Pizza Hut in Lee, Mass (that was the worst one I've been to), and food from the PATCO places around here.I don't mind Burger King because theres one right next to my school and sometimes we sneek out at lunch and eat at the BK, so it's kinda grown on me. 1.I also hate Mickey D's, EVERYTHING is disgusting. The McNuggets are made from 85% recycled meat, 15% kitty litter. The only thing I'll eat from there is an M&M McFlurry.2.Taco Bell. More like Taco Hell. Take a 55-Gallon barrel of Pepto-Bismol with you if you just have to eat there.3.Arby's. The sandwiches on their commercials look mouth-watering, but when you actually try one, it makes you wanna puke. Also keep the Pepto on hand.4.Dunkin Donuts. They are awful because they are a week old when they pop out of the deep-fryer, they're dry, and they're out-of-round (I'm Krispy Kreme biased ). They ain't got nuthin' on Krispy Kreme.

Chris,Although you confined your examples to fast food, here are my nominees in the fresh food category:1. Tapioca. Frankly, if I wanted to eat something that has the look and consistency of jellied fish eyeballs, then I'd eat jellied fish eyeballs. I'll take fish eggs instead. You can have the tapioca pudding, I'll have the caviar.2. Rhubarb. In the days before frozen vegetables or even home canning, they were utterly desperate for something fresh after a winter of eating salted or smoked meat and withered potatoes and carrots from the root cellar. Since rhubarb is about the first thing that grows in spring, they started eating the stuff, even though the leaves are toxic and the stems so loaded with oxalic acid it will give you kidney stones. The only good thing about rhubarb is all the sugar it has to be loaded with to make it even remotely edible.3. Fried green tomatoes. There is certainly something to be said for thrift. "Waste not, want not" and all that. But still... Anyway, I'm going to end up with some green tomatoes, but I'll be making chutney out of them, or pickling them with onions or digging them under.Someone else already mentioned chittlin's, so at least that's somebody's sacred cow I won't have to make myself any more unpopular over. My stomach is no longer able to process solids, but I could never stand fish. Even the smell of fish cooking is nasty. Actually, I hated most seafood. Squid and Eel being the worst I've tried. Shrimp was good though.Other standouts would be Liver, Avocado, Asparagus, Frog legs, and Head cheese. (quivers at the thought of head cheese...)-Jeff

Here's my list:1. Avocados and Glockamole (sp) - stuff looks and tastes like green snot2. MacDonalds - I'm with the rest of you here. Food tastes bland and dry and the service (or lack thereof) is simply unbelievable. I can get a meal at a sit-down restaurant faster.3. Raw squid - Several years ago I was in Tokyo on business and our Japanese hosts fed me raw squid. Tasted like I was eating rubber bands. Although, I have to admit, they have a Kerin beer over there that's really good. A half dozen of those babys and you'll eat damn near anything!Larry Steiner

What about hygiene?What is about to follow is factual and is not intended to be racial or discriminatory.If you went to London about 15 to 20 years ago you would have found that the catering industry there was run entirely by the Greek Cypriots, and it has to be said (based on many experiences) that hygiene did not appear to be on the top of the agenda.Experience 1:Go in to café order fish and chips (very nice I have to say), then dessert..." I'll take my ice cream out to eat please?" I was then handed the ice cream and a plastic spoon, but to my horror I saw that the plastic had hardened pigeon s**t on it. I said to the server "look at this spoon!" Whereupon he took it from me, and (instead of replacing it with a new one) scraped the "s**t residue with his "dirty" fingernail, and then promptly handed it back to me...Experience 2:Another café: The server was busy taking money and then it was my turn to ask what I required: "Could I have the fresh cream dough nut please?" said I. He (the server) grabbed the squishy dough nut up in his soiled hands and said "anything else?" Yes! Do you have any Salmonella?Experience 3:A busy coffee bar run by six guys: "Excuse me, but can I use your washroom please?" Said I. "upstairs" said he. I was confronted by a very small room that was so dirty and grubby you could not see the white walls anymore. No soap! and No towel!Experience 4:Another café: I went up to the counter and said that I would have one coffee and the last Lemon meringue portion. The lady with the mustache said she would bring it over, so I sat down and waited and waited until I thought this is all too long. I went back to the counter and to my astonishment caught the lady with a mustache eating a section of my lemon meringue pie. What remained was meager.Experience 5:Immigrant corner shop 10 years ago: I happened to be in this shop when a little girl came up to the shopkeeper and complained that there were foreign object in her packet of crisps . He took the bag from her and emptied the contents onto his hand and picked out the un-identifiable objects, which he thew away, and put the remaining crisps back into the packet and then handed the packet back to her. I remonstrated with this man until the girl was given another packet.Yup! I sure have had food poisoning.Mike

My military experience in the "Armpit of the World" the all expense paid vacation by Robert "bodycount" Mac Namera to a SouthEast Asian Tropical Paradise. 1967Army coffee. 50 gallon alumunium pot filled with water with a one gallon can of ground coffee dumped in. Gets interesting when you get down to the last few inches in the pot.Jello that didn't jell. Someone mixed up the salt with the sugar.Ham and Eggs, Chopped. This stuff is canned and about several years old.Ham and Lima Beans, Canned and served cold. You scrape off the top layer of grease first before eating.Canned whole milk, warm, not the sweetened condensed variety either. It also was at least a few years old.The local cooked rice, complete with boiled maggots.Home baked French bread. The better stuff has about 8 to 10 flour weavels baked in. Otherwise, it looks like rye bread except the rye seeds are the baked in flour weavels.Nuic Man. A fermented fish sauce the locals produce. Never tasted this stuff. It has to be a toss up between your Ham & Eggs and the godawfull dehydrated - dessicated - sometimes rehydrated scrambelled eggs we used to get -yech!!Kim Chee is right up there in my book.

Mike,Back in the sixties, on R&R in Thailand after visiting the ruins at Ayuthaya, I had lunch on a sort of canoe on the Chaophraya River. It was cooked in a wok over a makeshift charcoal brazier. I don't remember what it was, but it was good! But I noticed afterward that the proprieter rinsed all the dishes by dipping them in the polluted river, ready for the next customer. Had more than a few experieces like that in Vietnam and Mexico, too.Maybe I just had an iron constitution in those days, but I never got sick. The fact is, we live at the bottom of an ocean of germs, an most of the human body is composed of, by weight, bacteria! I have to laugh at the TV commercials with their antiseptic wipes and sprays that pander to people's fear of germs. Most bacteria are harmless or necessary for life or otherwise beneficial. As far as harmful bacteria go, you would be far safer eating dirt and wallowing in mud than you would be spending an overnight in a hospital.

Paul,The irony is that not one Greek Cypriot gave me food poisoning--although by rights I should have been stricken many times.Moreover, I have had severe food poisoning, but not at the hands of foreigners, but from my own kind: the English. It happened in an "Olde English" tea shop in the Lake district (Keswick), and I was a very naive sixteen at the time, so when I walked in and said I'll have that nice looking "prawn" salad--Yes the one that has been exposed to the hot summer's afternoon for hours. That's irony for you!Mike

Michael,Sure have been a lot of complaints about fries in this post! As a matter of fact, once upon a time McDonald's fries used to be superb, like the best Belgian and Swiss (not French) pommes frites. That's because they used to be cooked in beef fat or lard. Then they got "politcally correct" and switched to some supposedly "healthy" cooking oil. It was all downhill from there.And so now we are just discovering that the transfats in the healthy polyunsaturated oils are far worse for you health than even totally saturated fats like butter and lard. Crisco's the culprit and the "French Miracle" explained. No wonder the frogs can eat all that beurre and those lardons and have less that half the heart attacks as Americans!
