Guess we'll see if Dale Earnhardt Jr. is still as happy as he was after the race come Monday. A little too excited about his boring victory, Dale Jr. gave NBC good reason to go to a 5 second tape delay next week after saying the "S" word during his interview. Wouldn't it be great if NASCAR fined him points, and he lost the championship by that many points? Oh one can have sweet dreams tonight......Chris Bogley

Seriously though,how many dozens of times have we heard that kind of stuff "sneak into the mike" before?One of my favorites was from back in the 80's.It was a Jets game.Marty Lyons,DE was "discussing" a flag called against him.The ref turned on the mike a little to fast and Lyons let out an angry "Bulls**t" that echoed through Giants Stadium.

Um, I don't recall crying about it. I was just making a topic about it. I thought it was funny personally, but NASCAR IS a family sport however, just as the NFL is. Thats the bottom line. What you and I find to be acceptable, someone else may not. He said it so fast as it was nothing, the chances of any child hearing it for the first time and remembering it is slim. But I don't like Dale Jr., at all, and I find him and Waltrips dominance of the big tracks to be a bit too much and well, too boring. The fact he was even able to muster up any excitement over this baffles me. NBC could have made better use of our time by talking to other drivers who actually worked for the victory.Chris Bogley

I don't understand it. Afterall, it is just a WORD! What ever happened to the saying: "sticks and stones"? It would be understandable if someone used their ability to communicate to degrade or disrespect someone using words and a fuss rose about it, but in this situation he was simply using a word as an expression of surprise and excitement. How many of us wouldn't let fly a few "questionable" words if a railroad called up and said they had a seat reserved for you in the cab of a steam engine or diesel next weekend for some mainline running?Mykel

Sorry Chris,I did't mean to say you were crying.I meant the crying in the media.Remember the helmet mikes?This whole subject is yet another example of the death of pro sports in the USA.Both NASCAR and the NFL are way to image oriented.The game,or race just don't really matter any more.Too many rules,too much money.Just look at the performance of the US B-ball team in the Olympics.We can't let them forget how bad they suck.I never really followed anything other than racing and football.I don't watch football anymore and the only NASCAR stuff I can stomach anymore is the Truck series.MC racing is where the fun is at.

People like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhart Sr., and Richard Petty worked their way to the top. Jr. got there because his daddy paved the way.

Regardless of the mans accomplishments,I'm deeply offended that Jeffy could be placed alongside Dale Sr.,or the King.I don't think Gordon would have made it back in the days of real racing.

IMHO, Jr is not of the same caliber as his father and as much as I dislike Jeff Gordon, I believe he is a better racer than Jr as well. I am not saying that Jr does not work hard, but the last few years it appears to me that the young kids are demanding things that the "Old Heads" worked hard for. Look at Mark Martin, he does not do half the complaining as these "New Kids" and he usually finishes somewhere between 1st and 15th (as long as he avoids that big wreck near the end of the race).
Since I brought up the #6 team, they just barely squeaked into the "Race for the Chase" ( I'm not a big fan of these new rules), now they are in the top 5. I think he stands a good chance to win.Regards,

Jr. was fined $10,000 and 25 points today which will drop him from the lead in points 13 up to 2nd 12 points down. They will appeal the penalty.Me personally, I don't agree with giving a penalty for something like that because I don't see it as a big deal, but I am glad to see that they are showing no favortism and are giving out equal punishment.joe

NASCAR kind of had to. Earlier this year they did the same thing to 2 Busch series drivers, so by not doing the same for Jr., it would have implied some sort of favortism.I have read many threads on this topic, and most say "Whats the big deal?" Well to most, myself included, it is not a big deal. I say the "S" word often, though not around my 3 year old. BUT like anything on TV, it is watched very closely by the FCC, and as we all know, CBS paid dearly for Janet's "mistake", and NASCAR and NBC want to make sure they don't become the next example for the FCC. By doing this to Jr., they send a clear message to the drivers, and crews: Keep it clean. NASCAR is still a family sport.Chris Bogley

I have to agree, too many rules on this and that. I mean think about it...they got on Jimmy (and fined him) when he pushed the bottle off the top of his car, and warned Jeff when he failed to show up at Victory Lane at Indy. Still, rules are rules. Every sport has them, and they are in place for a reason, so as fans we either deal with it, or we find something else to watch on TV. Through it all though, I would still rather watch NASCAR any day.Chris Bogley

>are giving out equal punishment. The big deal is that Nascar racing is a family event. You have kids as young as 3 years old watching these races. They are in the stands, they are at home watching it on TV. They are in the pits (with pit pass), watching the pit crew change tires and give fuel. Nascar (all series) is a family sport, so thereforth language, and behavior should be kept at a family level. Of course that doesn't happen at Bristol, but I don't really blame the driver. Is it me or does Bristol looks like a Football stadium when they do the blimp shot?

I also prefer road courses.Short track is fun though.For the best action though,look at motorcycle racing.No one's arguing about the family sport issue.It's just that NASCAR has really gone to far this time.Restrictor plates,speed limits in pit row,and now this.

NASCAR has become a bit Politically Correct over the last few years. Granted most of the drivers still come from the South, but they are doing away with that "Bad Boy" outlaw look. IMO this sport is becoming too clean.
They dont need all these changes to make the sport any better. Further more, what is the main reason folks go to the races?
Besides rooting for their favorite racer, they go for the accidents. The drivers know what they are getting into and in the last ten years they have lost plenty of talent in the Winston/Busch/Craftsman series, as well as the different divisions.
How many of you who sit here and say you do not like the accidents actually watch in excitement as the car barrel rolls across the finish line? Or hit rewind on the VCR just to watch the 20 car pile up again?Regards,

While wrecks are fun, we do need to realize that drivers do get hurt in them. But heres one thing Nascar got going for them. In Basketball, Baseball, Football, and every other sports. They are asking for more money for less work. But in Nascar, when the team wants more $$ They race harder for it!

F1 racing is a joke. The pole sitter leads the whole race and wins. They very rarely pass. A real joke would be to let an F1 driver try to qualify for a NASCAR race. They may be able to drive a high powered go-kart, but they would find it tough to drive a heavy stock car. Talk about boring! Anyway as for Dale Jr., IT'S JUST A WORD. GET OVER IT! I probably say it 20-30 times a day myself. (I am a mechanic.)

These drivers know they are risking their lives by going 200 mph with 42 other cars going the same speed or faster and they accept that. If they are uneasy about risking their lives in such an enviorment then they need to get out of the car. Well my news source just told me that their will be a 5 second delay in the next race.
