Nah,It's got to be the MP44.I wonder if that clown knows what he's got.In seemingly excellent shape. That was a rare weapon even in the Wehrmacht. Then again,a few buddies of mine with similar WW2 interest were watching news footage of the first Gulf War and the segment was on the Highway of Death. There was a tank KO'd by a bomb that was upside down.We all jumped out of our chairs at the same time and yelled"Holy S**T,that's a KO'd Panther. It was tough to tell from the inverted and partially buried hull, but the tracks, and especially the overlapping wheel pattern gave it away.Maybe that's not that unusual as the French continued to build Panthers and spare parts into the fifties. And the Serbs used T34's and T54 hulls with M18 Hellcat turrets right up to the Nato intervention.

Here's the question though,Did anyone manufacture the MP44 after the war?It was a great weapon.

>Here's the question though,Did anyone manufacture the MP44
>after the war?It was a great weapon. No: production and development of the StG-44* ceased after WWII, after only 430,000 were produced. It had several faults (It was a little too heavy, the magazine stuck out too much, making it difficult to fire from prone, and the buttstock broke too easily). Still, it was much more effective in combat that either the Kar 98K rifle, or the MP40 submachinegun (the two weapons it was intended to replace). It faults can be forgiven by the fact that it was the very first assault rifle ever produced, and thus it's designers were treading uncharted waters. The original AK (popularly called the AK47) outdid the StG-44 in almost every way: Although it's been incorrectly stated that the AK is a copy of the StG-44, Mikhail Kalashnikov still learned some valuable lessons from the StG's strengths and flaws when designing the AK.*The weapon was indeed originally called MP-44 (MP=Machininpistole=Sub-Machinegun), but by Hitler's order, the MP-44's designation was changed to StG-44 (StG=Sturmgehwer=Assault Rifle) for propaganda purposes before it was accepted for service. Despite the original reasons for the StG designation, it spawned an entirely new class of weapon bearing that name...Jonathan Nikiforovs.

>holding the sign up? Err, you're still trying to figure it out? In case you didn't bother to read the thread throughly, someone else already figured it out, and the unusual thing about the picture is the gun on the left, which is basically an extremly rare WWII-vintage German weapon (unlike the AK on the right, which is as common as dirt)

The irony is, he could do more good for himself and his loved ones by selling that to a collector or museum and making a decent sum of cash off of it. That's thing's an antique!I say just give up - hell, we're the USA. When we're done making war we give out lots of free stuff. RE: What's so odd about this picture?

Looks can be decieving. That's not an MP44 there. Specifically, it is a KA-74 Type 5. (or if you rather, in the english naming system, the AK-74).Though, it could just as easily be the KA-74M, a modification of the AK-74, which it's intended use is for motorized infantry. The AK-74m was manufactured and designed in Russia by Izhmash Small Arms. The AK-74m also exists in another variant the AKS-74m which has a side folding stock and was designed for Air-born troops.

What's so odd about this picture? – image 37The weapon on the right is an AKM or an AKMS (can't tell which, because I can't see the stock): I can tell by the magazine and shape of the foregrip. The magazine of all AK-74 type weapons are made of either orange or black plastic. Both the magazines in that picture are obviously made of stamped sheetmetal.Jonathan Nikiforovs.
