Did anyone see the TV show Cops last night on Fox? A police Officer in Des Moines was chasing a guy on a dirtbike. The guy on the dirtbike started driving along a rail right of way. When the cop tried the same thing, he slammed into the tracks, giving him at least one flat tire and getting him stuck on the tracks. No more than 30 seconds later, a UP freight approaches from the other direction. The look on the cop's face was priceless. That train was routed through a switch to another track, much to the relief of the cop. A few minutes later, another UP train approaches, this time from the other direction and travelling much quicker. The cop's reaction was something like "you have got to be kidding me, another one!?" The cop tried to flag down the train, but before the train got much closer, it too was routed onto another track. Both trains looked like they were coming right at him, but they were routed onto other tracks. After talking to the railroad, it turns out that the track the officer was stuck on was a branch line used only by a daily switcher, all the mainline trains used another track. Pretty funny stuff.
