I'm shocked and really annoyed that Bob Artim would post my SD40 cabview perspective on Train-Sim.com as his own original work.I, like other creators, spend inordinate amounts of time creating content and do not charge for our work but instead share it with others. However, we would certainly expect that people in the train sim community would respect the unwritten rule of having the courtesy to give full credit for the original creator's work when posting the altered work to a public site.I have asked Nels Anderson to withdraw Bob Artim's offending files from the file library.Alex Hall

Maybe, just maybe...it was an error on Bob's part and intended no "theft" or ommision of credit. Knowing Bob, he's a stickler for "credit" and "permissions". It wouldn't be the first time someone forgot to include names or credit.Did you E-Mail Bob at all to see if there was a mistake or perhaps a misunderstanding? I am all for giving credit where credit is due, don't mistake me there; however, your "claims" seem vague, or at least not enough information to post in open forums for all to make their own assumptions and deductions. It's easy to spout off one's displeasure, but in an open forum one must take care how it is presented. It might seem serious now, but what if it were a "common error" that would make anyone look foolish. I do not doubt your concerns or even your "anger" on this matter, I just wonder if you contacted Bob on this first. Might have gone better or at least differently in the long run. But anyway...if memory serves me correctly, Bob made a cabview pretty much similar to yours methinks. Perhaps you are confused. Maybe you better E-Mail Bob post haste....it might be you that have err'ed.Kip

RE: BOB ARTIM INFRINGES COPYRIGHT ETIQUETTE

First off Alex, let me say I do not come here to argue and fight, I come here to have fun. You could have used email to state your case instead of a public forum to accuse me of something.Second I have been running North Eastern Railroad for over 2 years. In the beginning I got caught up in a stir for using someone's stuff and learned about what happened in the Flitesim world, and decided i would not go this route. I wanted to maintain some kind of integrity in the trainsim community. We made it our policy to ask permission to do repaints and host other people's work. We are in good standing with a lot of people, NALW is one who you should know of. I have painted over 500 pieces so far and never intended anyone any malice towards their work. If we were refused permission then we used another unit, some people had us alter our work a little bit, like 3DTS.3rd if we were involved in blatant copyright infringements all these years, do you think Nels would have given us a forum? vNERR came here with the hopes of sharing close to 600 activities and all the rolling stock, because we wanted to give something back for all the enjoyment we have gotten from everyone's work here and other places. It has been so long since I did a cab view, I dont remember where or who's files they were at this moment. I will have to go back and look through my records. So if you will give me a little time I will correct anything that is wrong. My email is artimrj@comcast.net . Over the next few weeks we will be uploading a lot of stuff. If by chance we have overlooked someone else, please contact me first. There is no need for all this in a public forum. It can do nothing but turn other people off from our wonderful hobby. We will correct any problems that may arise, no questions asked.

Alex I know that you've done alot of work getting a good cabview for us to use.My question to you is what part of the cabview did he use without giving proper credit.I for one can tell you that the cabview in question has been used on his site for quite some time now.Correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't that view the original work of TA that you modified. If that's the case how could he infringe on something that wasn't truly yours to began with. Not trying to get a flame war started or take anything away from you.But I am curious.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastBob Artim Infringes Copyright Etiquette – image 1

RE: BOB ARTIM INFRINGES COPYRIGHT ETIQUETTE

Well it is my bust. It is Alex Hall's cab view. After digging through 150 cds I found the original folder and files I started working with. They are his.I have sent him an apology via email in hopes to rectify this situation. As I say, no harm or discredit was ever intended. Everything we do at vNERR is in the spirit of fun and fair play.Sorry for the interruption.

Thanks all. Everyone's apology is accepted with gratitude.I have been in touch with Bob via email and as I said to him and as he has reiterated above, I was bringing up the point about giving credit where credit is due which I am pleased to see is an integral part of NERR's game plan. In short, I believe that it was an honest error. The one problem though with these forums is that we (I) are all quick to judge and react because we don't really know each other. The same as being in your car in a traffic jam where you don't give the "other guy" the benefit of the doubt. Instead, we just gesture rudely to him.

Lastly, this same cabview thing happened to me several months ago and was resolved privately through email. Unfortunately, there was no email address included in the NERR upload, only this forum's and NERR's web site addresses.Back to having more fun!Alex Hall

Just a personal observation and opinion, but my hat's off to both of you. Coming out from opposite corners of the ring (to use an old euphemism), meeting in the middle and resolving the issue in less than 9 posts .. that ought to be some kind of record Seriously, usually it's the users in the situation that come out on the 'losing end' when two people can't come to an agreement, but two gentlemen can make a big difference. Thanks to all involved!RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com
