On 1 June 2004, NERR released its' 570th activity for Microsoft Train Simulator. NERR makes these activities available to its' more than 230 members free of charge. These activities are developed for a collection of over 20 MSTS Routes that include some NERR member-only routes. The significance of these activities is that all have been beta tested multiple times by a group headed by Brian Element. When finally released to NERR members, Brian's team has ensured that the route, the activity and the required equipment provide the engineer with driving pleasure instead of installation headaches. Through close working relationships with several route developers, NERR has created custom versions of several MSTS routes which are only available to their members. Routes utilized by NERR are also taken through a selection process prior to being placed in use. During the selection process, if shortcomings or improvements to the route are identified, NERR staff contacts the route's developer and works with him to make the necessary adjustments or improvements. Once complete, the routes are made available to the NERR membership. To add to the enjoyment, NERR has also put together it's own fleet of equipment by repainting/skinning equipment models into its own livery. Prior to a piece of equipment being placed on the NERR equipment roster, a complete tune-up is done to ensure that the equipment's physics are to spec and the equipment will operate as close to real life as possible. Finally, members have access to a growing forums area that provides them with information and assistance on various areas of MSTS from just getting started to activity development and route design. Membership at NERR is limited to 300. If you would like to participate in a growing aspect of the MSTS community, stop by and signup.
