Would it be possible to simulate the process of being given a track warrant in dark territory, to give your train verbal permission to occupy a block? Also, I'd love to see working defect detectors. Even better would be if they could be programmed to give a specific message announcement... there are programs on the market that can convert text to synthesized speech, so I would suspect that the technology to do this already exists. Of course, the icing on the cake would be random "defect found" alerts!
Bruce, Did you ever have any luck with making a detector scenery object? I created a generic CR DED message by using an actual recording. The message is in the standard CR monotone voice with just the first part announcing "Conrail". This wav file is available to anyone. I too would like to see DED capabilities and track connections, in the upcoming TMS. One objective is that the DED would announce hotbox problems as specified by the activity author, or just random instances. As someone who did not grow up with the sound of the steam whistle, I believe the DED message is just as magic and symbolic of modern railroading. Walter Conklin
