I think a really good idea would be to include a fictional route
that exercised all the capabilities of the sim and could be used
as a reference for examples in the "How to build a TMTS route"
documentation.Further, I think open-architecture would relieve the developer of
the pressure to produce updates while driving long term sales of
the core program.Maybe if I can crank out a version of the DRG basemapping tool
that other people can get to work my ideas will be taken more
seriously. Lloyd

RE: Bundled route

Lloyd,We do plan on having some short fun routes to demo and test some of the new capabilities of the sim. At the same time include the traditional full length routes for a real driving experience. We are in the early stages of content planning but we do have some of the best working on it. We will certainly try to explain how to make a route better than MSTS. But if we do a good job and fix bugs as they are found, and explain how to do things, then what will all the people on the Forum do? I do not want to put Nels out of a job by explaining everything. We need to leave somethings a mystery just so you guys can discover how to do new cool things. Michael

Are there any chance that any of the routes in the current TrainMaster will be included?-USRailFan, that'd love to finally see a realistic Horseshoe Curve

Personally, I'd like to see five main routes, one from each of the five parts of the world (America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania), divided between modern-day (diesel/electric) and steam-era.What would be nice:
Horseshoe Curve (Steam-Era, USA, America)
Lötschbergbahn (Modern-day Electric, Switzerland, Europe)
A Shinkansen route, e.g. Tokyo-Osaka (Modern-day Electric, Japan, Asia)
"The Blue Train" route (Modern-day steam, Republic of South Africa, Africa)
Alice Springs to Darwin railway (Modern-day diesel, Australia, Oceania)

Ninety percent of the route is flat, featureless, semi-arid scrubby desert-like terrain.
The route of The Ghan is only exceeded in "nothingness" by the Trans-Australian route of the Indian Pacific. The interesting bits - Darwin, Alice Springs and Adelaide out through the Flinder's Ranges - would make for a more attractive, compressed, route. But you sure wouldn't want the total mileage in a simulation, that's for sure!Bruce

Bruce, that's a prime example of where 'selective compression' (often used in model railroading) would come into play .. along with quite a few other large prototypical roads. RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

He said that was what he would like to see included! And if you want to see long iron-ore trains, the 7 kilometre-long trains run by BHP in Western Australia take some beating! Bruce.
