Ed,
Yes, I can recommend a route. Search the list of free territories offered and find one that you have some knowledge about. Choose either a territory that runs in your home area or one that you've read about in books/magazines or the web. Learning about some unknown railroad and trying to learn TD3 would be like trying to learn to dirve in a strange town.
Once you've decided on a line that you're comfortable with, turn off the additional functions that the program contains. To activate or de-activate these optional functions, click the “Function Activation” menu item under the “Options” menu.
Next I'd set all the "Random" fields to "0". While the author of the territory may have reasonable default values, if you're just starting, you can begin without their interference and work your way up to more realistic numbers later.
Finally, I'd turn the default speed of "20" way down! Use the "T" and arrow button to get down to a more reasonable speed. I'd suggest no more than 4, but you can find your own comfort level. And if things begin to go to fast for you on the sim, just hit the "Stop" button and the world will come to a halt...well, at least on the sim.
Have fun!WB
