Mar-08-02, 00:20 AM (EST) "Train Master (Demo Download)" I downloaded the free demo from Train Master the other night and was actually impressed. I have been using MSTS for months now but have still been disapointed in how inaccurate the equipment performs in this simulator. The first thing you notice with Train Master is how more realistic the brakes operate. I also feel that the locomotive sound portion of the sim is excelent. I have been in the railroad industry for nine years. Before going into Train Dispatching I was in Train and Engine service and have spent many 12 hour days/nights in the cabs of SD40's. Train Master really did a great job on the recreating the sound of this locomotive. The control stand needs some work and the the graphics are not up to MSTS levels but I feel that Train Master gives a much more accurate simulation of what it is like to operate a locomotive. I plan on ordering the sofware next week and really believe that those of us that are more interested in train dynamics than in playing with choo choos sould support this product so that they can make the improvements that are needed. The graphics on TM kind of suck, but who cares? The only part of MSTS I really use is the route editor anyway. When I want to really run trains, I use TM.Cheers! The Trainmaster people are working on a better control stand and if they keep to schedule, it shouldbe available in 3 weeks.
I also have MSTS and Trainz and still prefer the sounds and physics of Trainmaster. I think you will like Trainmaster as long as your are not expecting to see your train behind you and opposing trains going by. You have run the demo so you know what I am talking about....Message Areas - "Train Master (Demo Download)" – image 1 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-10-02, 09:03 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Train Master (Demo Download)" Does the demo run on the potash branch? There really is some outstanding scenery on that line, especially at the southern end. If so, be warned that this is TM4's masterpiece. As good as the train running simulation is, the scenery on the other routes is not what it could be. I'm hoping that there will be some add-on routes and better cabviews in a reasonably priced update sometime soon. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Your opinion. Have you ever operated a real locomotive? Just curious. Trainmaster is not into the eye-candy aspect of the simulation. It is giving you real sound, real physics. I think everyone agrees that the controls need to look better but the heart and soul of the Trainmaster simulator is not eye-candy. It is true physics. In MSTS, you release the brake and your off to the rodeo. No real time delay to pump up a long freight. In TM, there is quite a delay, depending of course on the size of your train. If you are running the coal run, there is a long delay while the compressor pumps up the train. MSTS, you pull the throttle and boom your gone like you were drive an SUV. TM, you have to wait for the loco to get the amps up and even then you can't just hit 60 in a couple minutes. Just like the real thing.
MSTS, you hit the emergency brake and you've stopped in no time. TM, you will slide for quite a long time.
I could go on but you get the drift. I am sorry you don't like TM but there are a lot of us feel contrary to that opinion. Eye-candy = MSTS
Eye-candy and more realistic sounds than MSTS = Trainz
Real train physics without the eye-candy = Trainmaster

Mar-28-02, 09:39 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Train Master (Demo Download)" I don't care. It's still a load of crap. Primitive graphics out of the stoneage, and cannot see any outside view of the trains. I had the demo a while back and tried it, so know this is a load of crap. The only time I got to see a train is when I passed one, and the detail is really stupied. This simulator looks like a cartoon. When I passed the train going the otherway it looked like something out of a cartoon. How can anyone buy shuch a load of rubbish as this. Trainz, and MSTS is far better than this trash anyday. And Trainz playing from the inside view is far better than Trainmaster, and the more carrages your pulling the slower it takes to pick up speed, like a real train does.I now know why you cannot see your train from the outside view in Trainmaster, because if you seen how your train looks like a cartoon then you would dump this game. I mean the detail in the trains are totally lacking bigtime. Just pass a train and see how stuiped they look.No wonder they did not give you the option of seeing your train from the outside. Also this sim is extremely boring. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>game. Here's the problem...this guy is a gamer, not a railfan.TM is NOT a game, it is an accurate simulation of loco and train physics. Gamers play with the MSTS and Trainz eye candy. I play with MSTS because it offers the opportunity to "simulate" an entire prototype crew district of my favorite line, which I am working on in the Route Editor. I simulate locomotive operation with TM, which I have not found possible to the same degree with either of the eye-candy "games." Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I agree with you on the gamer not a simmer thing.
I'm resolved not even bother with any more banter on the subject. He is entitled to his opinion. I have and enjoy all three but TM has the sound and physics thing down pat....
