Jul-28-01, 08:26 AM (EST) "Early message from Master Qui Gon (inferior maps)" Most of the "hand drawn" maps of yards in CSX timetables were in fact created on a CADD system here in Jacksonville. How do I know? Either myself, or someone else in my group created most of them. The walls of every field office on CSX must be papered with system maps created on our system, we produced so many.I have both of the current train simulators, but at the moment do not own enough disk space to keep MSTS on my system. However, one thing that I have noticed about it, is that it is generally less of a graphic hog than TM-4, though I otherwise prefer TM-4.On my somewhat antique system (233 Pentium, MMX, 4GBT drive, PCI based ATI Radeon card) the best I can get in TM-4 is about 7 frames per second (you need 20 to really look right), while on MSTS, I usually get 12-15 fps. In the next few weeks I am going to add a 2nd hard drive so I can keep MSTS on the system. TM-4 does not allow you to pull off anything that you cannot do in the real world, whereas MSTS allows some odd things - try running a BNSF stack train on the Japanese mountain railroad - it works but the tunnels must be elastic------.I too would like to see the Entire line from DC to Cumberland, and I would also like to see the Blue Ridge & Kingsport Subs. as well. (former Clinchfield), but my favorite preferences would be the Louisville to Nashville, and Nashville to Chattanooga Lines, especially the latter. Here is a 152 mile sub., that has a pretty good profile - except - at around mile 85, there is Cumberland Mtn. with it's 2% southward, and 1.6% northward grades, and then at about mile 130, there is Raccoon Mtn. with less of a grade, but an impressive double track viaduct.TM4's owner, Robert Leilich has mentioned that he might releast the scenery editor, but he has gone to a lot of effort to create accurate scenery. It is accurate as to curvature, grade, elevation, etc., but some liberties have been taken otherwise. It is necessary to have accurate topo. map data, down to less than a meter of elevation variance, and it is also necessary to have accurate coordinates for the track (GPS), which is something the real railroad is still working on. Although retired, I help out some with that effort at CSXlandnrailroader,
