Mar-28-01, 12:04 PM (EST) "Welcome TrainMaster Users" Welcome to the TrainMaster message area. When it was released last year TM4 became the first sim to allow the user to drive American railroads with a 3D out the cab view. This forum is available for TM4 users and potential users to ask questions and help each other. I hope you enjoy using it.

Mar-29-01, 01:22 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" Thank you Nels for starting this forum. I downloaded my first "Trainmaster" quite a few years ago from your Xevious bulletin board in Framingham. Since then, I've retired and we're now living in Florida. I've been a subscriber to Flight Sim too for years. I have the 3.2 version of Trainmaster with most of the extra price files with additional trains and tracks @$20/each. Also have the Train Builder that still works with my new 4.0 version. That cost $30. You needed even more imagination to use the 3.2 version, that showed just a profile of the train, but the instrument panel and the train operation was just the same as the version 4. I've enjoyed these things and was a bit disappointed when I found that the sound didn't work for my version 3.2 when I recently bought a new modern computer with Windows Me.
I've had version 4.06 now for about a week and I'm enjoying it. As if the coal trains weren't heavy enough, I've made one with 150 cars and a gross weight of some 19,000 tons. I like to play what if. I also noticed some boots in the documentation or the file. The Pepsco Coal train is listed in the book as an SD40 which is 2000 HP. Two of them would be 4000. On the file the train is listed as having 2 locos and a total of 12,000 HP. They would have to be SD90MACs.
I have the feeling this outfit is operating on a shoe string and I wish them well. I've always had a soft spot for the underdog and they sure have some strong competition coming up when Microsoft's train sim hits the stores. Bad timing on the part of Trainmaster people but I'll still support them along with picking up the MS sim.
I've been a train and plane nut for some 70 years now and still stop and look up at passing planes and pull over my car and watch passing trains with as much excitement as when I was 5 years old.
By the way I tried to register just now with the same name and password I've been using for years with Flight Sim. I got the password that was sent to my email but it doesn't take for some unknown reason. I must be doing something wrong. Oh well I'll try again tomorrow. Mar-29-01, 07:38 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" Hi Jim...Well, it looks like you know my whole history, back to the old phone line BBS days It's been 16 years now that I've been running some sort of online site.I got TrainMaster 4 as soon as it came out. Though I've always liked trains (had a big HO layout when I was a kid) the earlier versions that were not 3D didn't really interest me but TM4 changed that.I think you're right about the size out the outfit behind it. Also the problems with the manual; I found that quite frustrating at first when I was trying to run the various routes and the speed limits on the route didn't match those in the manual. The basic sim is pretty good but there's a number of little details like this that need fixing.I hope they can stay in the game. Microsoft is a huge threat, and it looks like they have a good sim coming, but competition is needed to keep pushing everyone to do better.

Apr-01-01, 01:11 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" Nels:
I downloaded and tried the run files posted here. They still miss the mark for my version of Trainmaster. I have v. 4.06. Must have been some changes to the tracks since the run files were made. I am keeping a record of the changes, but I work very slowly (smile). I will post my amended run files if and when I ever finish them.
Re: your exchange with Frenchy, I too would like to see New England tracks. I have their Boston and Albany track running from South Station through Framingham, Worcester, Springfield to Albany so I know the Trainmaster people have that data.
I would not be too surprised to see Trainmaster bought out by Microsoft or in some other way merge with MS train sim.
I'm happy to see this forum growing by leaps and bounds. It should really take off when MSTS hits the streets.
Best wishes Nels,

Mar-29-01, 11:07 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" You can find information about TrainMaster...in the TrainMaster Forum that we have set up here, including a FAQ, a review, links to the publisher...pretty much everything I could think of to include. Look for the link right on the home page here.

Apr-03-01, 09:52 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" I have just dowloaded the demo....What a great way to introduce oneself to Train Simming! I am looking forward to MS Train Sim. Because MS is about to enter the train sim market, I forsee TrainMaster stepping up their development and giving MS a real fight! This is going to be a good alternative to Flight Simming!Paul Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-01, 09:45 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Welcome TrainMaster Users" Yes, I hope you're right. TrainMaster has a head start, but clearly they are a few years behind the times in the 3D graphics area. Hopefully they will keep at it, because competition is good for everyone. Then of course we have Auran's Trainz coming out near the end of the year to make things even more interesting. 2001 is going to be a good year for train fans.
