RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

I just thought that it might have been mantioned or one of the guys who visited the E3 might have seen screens with both electrified and not electrified tracks in one route because I think it would be an important feature as it really is very unrealistic to have all electrified routes even in Europe. From my understandig it also shoulnd be too hard to have at least the choice of electrification on each tile. But ok , I'm patient right now (in fact I'm not , i really can't wait to get MSTS2!!!) RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

Hi CS, I agree it should be this way for realism. Main line and sidings used by main line trains usually have catenary, but industry spurs off the main, many loading/unloading tracks/docks, and trakcs inside an industry aera are normally not electrified. That's what you need diesel or bi-modal shunters for, in the first place. We'll have to wait and see. Lukas a.k.a Swissie

It is a question, I wonder about too. It seems to me like it would be relatively easy to put some control object on the track, like a sound region, that turns on or off, the electrification.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

In the US there is the FL9 (recently retired MN/CDOT/AMTK ex. CR exx. PC nee NH), the P32ACDM (MN/AMTK replaced the FL9, known as Genesis II or AMD110), and the DM30AC (LIRR only). Pictures of these can be found at www.nycsubway.org/aroundny/lirr and www.nycsubway.org/aroundny/metronorth . Pictures can also be found at various MTA and NH sites on the web. While outside of New York City, they used diesel electric traction, but New York's famous no smoke laws (which have made there way into all public spaces in the City) prohibited them from entering the tunnel in D-mode. Outside of the Park Avenue tunnel or just outside of Penn Station, they would switch to 600V third rail for the rest of the run into Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal.

>yards with wires over head.... For instance here is a picture (Copy-write Trains Magazine)
of Sunnyside Passenger Yard in New York City in 1956...
The Motor (electric locomotive to the unwashed) is a New Haven EP4.
This motor was being built while PRR was building GG1s (its box-cab older brother the EP3 was the basis for the GG1 mechanical design and this is a significant upgrade to that...)
4200hp; Power is your choice of 25hz 11KV AC or 700v 3rd rail over-running or under-running DC; 25% more MTE than a GG1; Max Speed in Service 90mph (geared for acceleration not top speed) routinely handled 20 or more car heavyweight trains with similar schedules to the EMUs for getting into and out of stations... Remember the NH (and now MN-CDOT) makes about 5 complete circles between NYC and NH and has stations only about a mile and half apart.... it is 4 to 6 track mainline (at least in 1956)....Chuck Schneider

RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

Enola and Potomac only had a few arrival and departure tracks that were electrified as well as certain engine leads. Sunnyside was electrified since trains were turned on a loop and serviced as units. Enola was switched with steam and diesel. The South Shore, Virginian and Milwaukee Road had some yards where all tracks were electrified but nothing the size of Enola or Potaomac and Sunnyside was the only one on the PRR. Norm Bell

RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

I'd like it if we could have both electrified and non-electrified tracks in one route. I'd also at least wnt to have both overhead wires and a third rail in one route. That way, If we're making a transit system, we'd have one line for the Light-rail line and another for the metro/heavy-rail line.

RE: Electrified and non electrified tracks in one route

Shouldn't be too difficult for KUJU to create a "Control" object, pointing in the desired direction saying "No Overhead Wires past this point, please !" Shouldn't stop Electric locos straying across the line though, the Route being "Electric" overall !

A similar "Control" object could also be used to trigger this special "Wheels going over a Point / Switch" clonking, sounding the same travelling through it forward and backward ! Another "Control" object would be useful for changing the appearance of Rails according to their usage. SNIPER knows a trick or two on this subject, having "Shiny" and "Rusty" rails side by side in the P.O.&.N. ! O t t o
