Bob (Motly24Crue2).... sounds like you're building the same system I am. I've got all the hardware ... haven't had time to set it up yet.Are you going to set up SATA RAID? I'm using two 10,000 rpm WD360 Raptors. If so, let's compare notes .... I'm a little confused about exactly how since the documentation on creating the necessary floppy disk for the Promise 378 FasTrak drivers is a little vague.

I'm pretty happy with my rig,P4, 2.66GHz
1 gig PC2700 DDR
asus P4S8X
120 & 40 GB WD HD's
Radeon 9700 pro AIW version (it's got the TV tuner on it)
Win XP proI looked into OC'in it but, theres no way to lock the AGP and PCI bus frequencies, So not wanting HD corruption, I ruled that out

My Dream computer would be all the latest at best stuff. So if there was a 4Ghz by the time MSTS 2 was released, I would want that but I don't think that will come true...

RE: Your Dream computer for MSTS2

I recently had a new computer built by a local firm to my specification having sought help fron this forum and the firm itself so to be able to get the best from MSTS. It is fantastic, giving me "Hesitation" free use, figures of over 30fps on a "Busy" route and 50/60fps on less busy routes, with all of the MSTS options turned up to maximum. The specification is - a P43Gig Hyper-Threading processor - Radeon 9700 video card - 1024 Mb DDR memory - 2x120 Gig hard drives - AbitIt7 Motherboard and I use XP Pro. The cost was less than £1500 which I think is a good deal. I hope it works as well with MSTS2!!

>i have never used mushkin Ram how Dependable is it? I have nothing but good things to say about Mushkin. I tell everyone I know to buy Mushkin if they're upgrading. Their CAS 2-2-2 (black series) modules are amazing, and they overclock very well. It's a pretty amazing thing that they can manage 400MHz (and higher) DDR and still keep latency at 2-2-2.-Jeff

RE: Your Dream computer for MSTS2

I'm typing on my (almost complete) dream gaming machine.Epox EP-8RDA+ (nForce2 w/ Dual channel DDR)
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 333fsb
2 x 512MB Corsair Extreme PC2700 (1GB & using dual channel)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX
Plextor 48x24x48 CD-RW
Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM (Until I get around to buying a DVD+-RW)
64MB PNY Geforce4 Ti4200 (Until the new 256MB FX5900's ship)
Old set of Monsoon MM-700 2.1 Speakers (Volume knob crackles, but they can still punch out a wall)
Viewsonic P95F+B 19" UltraBrite Monitor (sweet 2048 x 1536 capability)
And now the most killer component in my system, the RAID array---
Adaptec 2400A ATA Raid card upgraded to 128MB ECC Cache... Operating 3 (that's three) IBM 120GB Deskstar drives in RAID-5 mode.
RAID-5 is the best error-tolerant array type available in a normal PCI card (non-server). Just as fast as RAID-0 (striping), but with parity stripes in round-robin on the drives. Which means I can only use 240GB of the available 360GB; but everything payed off last month, when one of my drives failed. The computer didn't even miss a beat (although HDD operations DID slow down). I bought and plugged in a replacement drive, left the machine on "rebuild array" overnight (takes about 8.5 hours), and was back to 100% without losing even a single BYTE of data.
Sorry if I sounded like some type of advertisement, but I included a RAID array to protect against Windows (after having some BAD Windows 98 experiences), only to have it save me from a hardware failure. I think it paid for itself.
Fair warning, though. No RAID card with this capability is shorter than a full-length PCI spec. They slide into those card-sized guides on the inside of the front of the case. If you don't have those guides, there's a 99.5% chance they won't fit in your machine. If you're scratching your head about now, move on... you shouldn't perform surgery on equipment you're not familiar with.

With all the specs everybody has listed does anyone still get the jerky graphics stopping and pausing. A lot of people say that the jerky graphics in MSTS is because of the graphics engine in MSTS. How ever i have heard a lot of people who don't have any of these problems.
