RE: Will they be any special price for MSTS 1 users?

The only price that I know of is when a "new" game comes on the market (in stores) the cost is about $49.99 and up? I know that when I bought it I paid that much so it might be the same or it might not be the same.Dave H.

This is Microsoft we're talking about here, so I wouldn't save anything less than $50.00

RE: Will they be any special price for MSTS 1 users?

Hi David !There are a number of MSTS-1 FREEWARE Add-On Routes which will not make it into MSTS-2, due to flawed Track Data Bases and World Tiles.I am planning to make these available on CD as Stand-Alone-Mini MSTS-1 Routes, self-contained with all the MSTS-1 files they need.Obviously I would have to come to some sort of agreement with MICROSOFT about what to charge on their behalf, payable to them for every MINI-MSTS Copy I supply.O t t o

RE: Will they be any special price for MSTS 1 users?

My expirience with MS in the past (FS and others) has been that when they release a sequel to a game you often find a rebate coupon in the box for "registered" users of the older product. Since I've never been good at keeping track of rebates, I've never sent them in, my fault I guess.
Will they have one in with MSTS 2, I suspect they will, but don't count on it being written in stone.James.

OK, Ottodad, I am trying to get what your saying. You are going to fix corrupt free-ware routes and sell them as stand-alone MSTS 1 routes.A few questions. First, how on earth are you going to get M$ (That is the first time I have used $, as you should never say M$T$ unless you don't like it). Second, how are you gonna get Freeware developers to agree. Third, what does this have to do with this post? Thanks!

RE: Will they be any special price for MSTS 1 users?

Microsoft .... special price? ..... please, my sides are hurting from laughing. Why in the world would they do that? They will milk MSTS2 for every nickel they can get, then months later it will wind up on Amazon for fifteen bucks, same as TS1.I know it isn't nice to laugh at serious questions on the forum, but ........ Whoohahahahahahah.Apologies in advance to anyone whose feelings might have been hurt.

Well if you dont wanna pa ythat much in the beginning, wait about three months when it drops to $19.99 But when MSTS first came out, I got it from wal-Mart a week ahead of the release date and it was $34.99. I bet MS wouldnt like that if they knew it.

RE: Will they be any special price for MSTS 1 users?

ssw_96 - Ms could care less. They will get their wholesale price for the unit, you can bet the farm on that. What the retailer does is up to the retailer. Once the discount department stores knocked the socks off "Fair Trade" pricing, there wasn't anything to stop retailers from charging whatever they wanted. Sometimes at a loss, known as "loss leader" pricing. Sony wants to pretend it is different for them, in reality it simply isn't. MSTS2 full price for three to four months, then the markdowns will begin. Some will sell TS2 for slightly less from the start in an attempt to create customer traffic. I would bet there won't be many, though. Bing

RE: selling early & loss leaders

Two points:1. I'm sure Microsoft would be quite interested to hear about stores selling games before the official release date. If video games are anything like music and movies, release dates must be strictly followed or the offending company could face large fines. Having said that, larger stores such as Walmart have been known to simply eat the fine as a cost of doing business and sell the product early anyway. It's not like a large distributor is going to stop letting Walmart sell their stuff.2. While it is true that large stores often use products as loss leaders, I don't see MSTS2 being the the kind of thing they would use to draw in custoimer traffic. People aren't going to walk into Walmart, pick up a copy of MSTS2, then decide to pick up a few lawn chairs and a new set of curtains at the same time. The market for MSTS2 is relatively small compared to other products they could use.

RE: selling early & loss leaders

Microsoft is not in the business of giving discounts for owners of MSTS-1 , but in the business of making money . While Bill Gates has his billions of dollars, if he only used it right , he could help thousand computer students , like me to learn the trade of Networking and art of repairing computer systems.
Microsoft wouldn't be putting out MSTS-2 , if there was not a market for it , it because of the success of first MSTS. MSTS-2 will most likely out sale MSTS in the first year. I would like to see companies , like Intel and Microsoft help the small computer business owner. Today , I got a call from Intel , the man started inviewing me and my company , but since I didn't have revenue of $100,000 , the man cut phone interveiw short . This really smokes me , that a grant company like intel only cares about those business making $$$$$ . I feel Microsoft is the same way

RE: selling early & loss leaders

Well as big a company as Wal Mart is, they prolly wouldnt care. The Wal mart where i stay at is trying to go to "supercenter" status, but it is catching hell from the local grocery stores. I've noticed that every new Wal mart being built in Arkansas is a Supercenter. Wal Mart is slowly booting off competetors in south arkansas. They stay open 24/7 and is a little bit cheaper than the local grocery store. But Wal mart is where I got my first version of MSTS from.

Office also retails for about 20 times what Train Sim costs and has a vastly larger installed base. Most of whom wouldn't purchase upgrades if they had to pay full whack.Secondly MSTS2 isn't an upgrade for MSTS1. Of course you could always wait a couple months until it starts being discounted.

LAST EDITED ON May-21-03 AT 09:23 AM (EDT)

As James Hunt said, my experience has been that there is almost always a $10 (US) rebate coupon for owners of previous versions. It's usually printed on the box to push the people thinking "I already have Midtown Madness 1, do I really want to buy another version?" over the edge. Microsoft didn't get to be a fortune 500 company from great programming and customer service, it's all about sales, marketing, and advertising. They don't give rebates out of the kindness of their teeny little black hearts, they give rebates because it's a proven formula to maximize profits.I've had every version of Flight Simulator starting with the original Bruce Artwick version, and Midtown Madness - Midtown Madness 2, Combat Flightsim and CFS2, and I can't recall a single Microsoft follow-up game that hasn't had a rebate coupon for previous versions of the same game.My opinion, there will be a $10 (US) rebate coupon for MSTS 1, with some kind of qualifier (registered, send in certificate of authenticity from previous, whatever), and if you actually do mail it in (the rebate/profit formula counts on the majority forgetting, not bothering, or losing the coupon), you get a check for ten bucks about 2 months later.
