RE: Multiplayer

some ppl thing that multiplayer is a bad idea but i am all for it. I don't know why it would be a bad idea. I think it would make it so much better because with humans you get mistakes and that adds more realism to the game. I am all for it!

RE: Multiplayer

I hope to see multiplayer online gaming in MSTS 2 as well. And if it does, it will be done either by the choice on playing in the Zone or by a host's IP address. I'm sure that there would be a maximum of 15 engineers to drive their own train. But, if it's capable of bringing in more engineers, all the better. At least one person would have to be the dispatcher (host) to have a view of the whole route filled with switches, signals, stations, sidings, etc. The dispatcher would be the only one in control of which train goes where by throwing the switches and changing the signals, like in real life. That's pretty much of what I can predict for now.

RE: Multiplayer

Heehee...then we can "acidently" park on the main line and watch the pileup! MWahahahaha...One probem I see with that thought...the current MSTS ends after 10 secs after a derailment...so would that mean if one person derailed..everyone would be booted from the session...that would suck!JayPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 4 Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 5 http://www.freewebs.com/peterbiltsrule Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 6 Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 7"Bring in the workers and bring in the rails, We got to lay down the track and tear up the trails"

RE: Multiplayer

there is an easy away around that. The dispatch would have to direct traffic around the derailment. The person would be booted from the server or the person has his train restarted from the place he began or the place he derailed. Not that hard to fix that problem. Also about sitting on the main line i think dispatch would send a amtrak train to ram your a$$ off. (we all know amtrak is expendable)

Besides yard and industry switching, there are many methods of main-line train operation that rely on crews to line switches themselves. I suppose the easiest way to represent this would be to allow the dispatcher to select who gets control of switches; this would also allow simulation of the many dual-control power switches out there. Speaking of switches, why do all the switches in MSTS act like variable switches (except when there's a bug that makes them act like spring switches)? I want rigid switches and to be held responsible for running through switches improperly lined.Whoever knows what I'm talking about can have a stale old biscuit. Actually, I'm just kidding.

RE: Multiplayer

From a logistics point of view all members would have to start out in different places lets say. You may see your compatriots from time to time. If on the other hand you want to have a crewed train.Engineer
Conductor
BrakemanThese people travel with you. Two up front and the other at the rear. This would be like an up to 80's time frame (EOTD implimentation). This could be pretty cool. Engineer and Brakeman working together to spot cars and the conductor keeping up with things from dispatch - Another position. This perhaps would require additional software that would also need to be tied in. Not that hard to be sure but could be needed unless he/she would be doing things the old paper way.You could also do the Engineer - Brakeman in a yard hostling trains.Could be pretty cool.Ronson

RE: Multiplayer

First off, lets just be happy that we are getting an upgrade, with the things that we wanted with version 1. And lets be happy about the compatability issue. Now remember the MSTS Editor in V1? At the bottom of the screen it said something about advanced users. I know everybody wants the easy 5 click method, and you have weather, traffic, restrictions, what have you. But that AINT gonna happen. If you want the easy 5 click method, I suggest that Lionel train sim that came out about 7 years ago. If you take the time, and be patient, there is nothing at all wrong with the activity editor. Using the activity editor, YOU are the DISPATCHER. The trains do what you tell it. And in a Multiplayer mode like you suggest, where all AI trains are human controlled, you wouldn't have any problems. That is a wrong assumption. Do guys show up in the real world and just jump in and go? Not at all. The multiplayer thing would have to be a whole different format, where you could possibly use MSTS2 for graphics and rolling stock. But the reality is this.....you need a DISPATCHER!!!! or all the human controlled AI trains, will have dire problems. At least on Nascar2003 there is room to maneuver...you got two shiny rails. Bottom line...multiplayer trainsimming....good. Included in MSTS....probably not even possible!
