SD70s ARE spartan cabs. All the others are Ms or MACs or have some other designation besides "SD70." As I said before, no one's done SD70s.

Regardless, I have my doubts that NALW is involved in this project. Many of the other MSTS manufacturers have far superior products...especially in the area of cabviews.I dont think NALW has the total product, locomotive, cabview, sounds etc. that MSTS/KUJU would be looking for. The screenshots I've seen, especially the cabviews, are why I beleive NALW is not involved. Looking at their past releases indicate that they don't have anything of similar quality. This is of course all speculation on my part, but that is the spirit of this MSTS2 section. Feel free to post your reasons why NALW would be involved, I would love to hear them.- Andrew

You don't think NALW has the total product that MSTS/KUJU would be looking for? Dude, when was the last time you used a default piece of MSTS/KUJU junk. . ? This is ALL speculation. Part of the FUN! I have no concrete reasons for why the SD70 in the screen shots might be a JC model. Just a hunch, I guess.

That stuff was nice, but the sounds on the SD40-2's were not that great. The horn and bell and all of that were nice, but the motor sounds? The motor sounded like it was blown or had a rod knock. NALW has great sounds, and most aren't default. Also, TA did that stuff.Later NW 1218 LONG LIVE THE F40C!

Thats my point...MS/Kuju farmed out the models to another developer, they knew that they sucked at it It would make sense from my point of view to chose an established payware company to contribute...like TA, 3DTS, or MLT. Why you ask, they have all the programs to create payware content and they have a proven business track record. I'm sure business statements are taken more seriously than numbers of downloads on a free site. Not that this rules out the possiblility, but I still find it highly unlikely. It would be like MS/Kuju asking me to do all the BC Rail skins for a BC Rail route they would like to produce...sure I could do it...but I guarantee they wouldn't pick me to do it - Andrew

RE: JCs SD70?

More reason why maybe they would just pick JC for his models? BTW, I'm working on a reskin of the TA SD40-2 and it's proven pretty easy so far. A couple of texture issues I've run into, but every model has those. Love the choices I get with the alphable parts! Thanks, guys.

FWIW, we were approached on various occasions, as recently as last month, by several Payware publishers and even some one claiming to represent/recruit for MS/Kuju and we declined to participate in any payware. We voted and decided that the NALW Organization would stay freeware only... Individual members are free to pursue payware careers if they so desire... Just that no NALW content can be used in payware....And When were you recruited????Chuck Schneider

No disrespect to JC, but the SD70 at the show didn't look like his work. According to Rick Selby, all locomotives were done "in-house" (Kuju/MS), and there are no 3rd parties working on content included with the release.Cheers!

RE: JCs SD70?

Well in my opinion you guys do some excellent work. Fine examples are the F40's, GG1's, UP Steam Pack, the GE mega pack, and im sure the EMD megapack will be just as good as your other releases. You guys do far good a job as I will ever be able to do. So there's no room for me to complain. And the fact that it is freeware also adds to the "think before you speak" analogy before you criticize someone else's work.

It's payware quality IMHO, and anyone may exercise their freedom to speak out, but also must be willing to accept an NALW (and the majority of this community's) tounge lashing if so deserved. Cheers!

Despite what others may have said on this post, I think some of NALW's releases are easily good enough to be payware, especially their Gennys and the Steam megapack, and from what I've seen of the screenshots of the upcoming EMD megapack...
Trainsimmers should consider themselves lucky that someone is willing to release such high quality work for free.ETIT: NALW's models have another quality to them, in that they are very fun to reskin. They do have alot of texture area (4 512x512 and 1 256x256 for the GE megapack units), and it can be frustrating trying to figure out where all the little pieces go, but once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. I've gotten the GE megapack textures figured out, after doing my first reskin of one of those units (which BTW will be released as soon as I get my needed permission). I guess it's like what my dad told me about automatic vs. manual transmissions. Manual is much harder to learn, but once you get the hang of it, you won't want to go back to automatic.

Chuck and the boys are respected by myself and I believe most of the guys here. Andrew ,anyone who says that their work isn't payware quality is just plain crazy. I also think that if you have any of their add ons on your system you should remove them as you don't deserve to use them. Frank Roberts

Well, I take exception to the comments made on the cabviews. These opinions are my own and represent only me. Don't dare go knocking anyones cabviews until you've tried it yourself. There is no comparison to creating a new cabview, with any other aspect of MSTS creating. Making the main Ace files is a chore in itself. You have the problem of getting a straight ahead view, while also having to fit in all of the controls, guages, lights, switches, etc. Plus add in the difficulty in making thr "perspective" look correct. We all know that even T/A faced that on the Sd40 cab that had the crooked angle on their Microsoft release, which many here modified to suit a straight on view. I might also add that is easier to use a photo-realistic picture and then add controls, but IMO is not as enjoyable because those contols are then offset and harder to read etc. Sam Spade (NALW) has made several incredible Cabs on the modern diesels. They are 100% created, with awesome textures, functionality, details galore, while remaining as prototypical as can be, given the field of vision limitations of MSTS. The "man made" main ace files are stunning, with depth, shadows, textures, and details beyond my expectations. The same goes for Dekosoft, 3DTrainstuff and others... I myself don't really like the SD40 cab from MSTS ver 1.2 (personal preference). And I'll take the non Microsoft affiliated cabviews any day. Kudos to Sam Spade and everyone else who have worked their a**es off to make the quality of cabs that I use every day. (Rant over) Kyle
