There is ONE clue I've seen to make me think some major code reworking, at least in some areas has taken place. The roundhouse, if the current framework for laying track is/was kept, then this would not be possible, as this would cause a 'rotating' track section, where the locomotive path could be turned about an axis and given a new path. Also there must be some means of judging a locomotive's, or train's respective length! The biggest thing I'm hoping for, is banking curves! I believe that is the biggest visual drawback to MSTS1, seeing a locomotive continue to stand upright through sweeping curves!!-Chris

I wouldn't hold your breath on this one.-Jeff
Might not be that hard, they obviously went to a 3D track base, and seeing as there doing some euro routes, They must have banked turns, so to be "as real as it gets" would mean banked curves too

I am not confident about this issue of enbankment of the curves...If they make them... it will be only for visual purposes only, with a single-value enbankment because I do not believe they will get that real in trying to model the correct performance of trains in enbankments and the amount of enbankment to it. I know it... I have done the real calculations. When calculanting the enbankment of a curve, you have to take into account the max. speed of the fastest train, the max. speed of the slowest train, establish the limits for the non-compesated and over-compensated centrifgal force and the problem of that one curve must not be taken isolately, but rather on the hole track section ( the other adjecent curves... and the adjecent to those). And taking all that, you don't necessarily have one single solution, if you have a solution...but... if they decide to make it for visual purpose with a single value, then I hope they make certain we can add a tilting nimation for tilting trains
There is, in fact, a German-made train simulation called "Zusi" (shorthand for "Zug-Simulator" ) which, among other things, features banked curves. I don't have this game, but from what I hear it also has quite realistic physics, as well as a truly prototypical representation of the German train control systems, such as PZB/Indusi and LZB. However, graphics are rather simple - though they do remind me of BVE in some way. Dominik MannVisit www.tssf.de - www.bahn.de - http://mercurio.iet.unipi.it/ - www.eisenbahnforum.de
Hello,The physics of banked curves are not difficult compared to the other physical calculations being performed in the sim. The amount of banking would have to be specified manually (probably in the form of balance speed) as part of some sort of spline interpolation between points approach. It would definitely not be compatible with the track-piece database approach of MSTS 1.I would be disappointed if they did not manage to include this feature in MSTS 2. I think it is one of the most glaring visual deficiencies of MSTS 1, especially in the context of high speed rail.cheers
