RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

Well with only 5 routes being inlcluded, and one of them being in Germany, and the other being Horseshoe Curve in 1946, that leaves only 3 other routes, with one other probally going to the Europe, Russia, Africa, or China. I wouldn't be surprised to see a route from Canada this time around, and one other US route, most likely modern seeing how they already got a older US route, i.e. Horseshoe. What would I like to see...Donner ranks right up there as does BNSF across Arizona from Needles Ca. to Winslow AZ. About 200 miles, but combines desert running, and then climbing up to over 7000 feet at Flagstaff.

Chris- I'd love Donner, along with Tehachapi, Raton, etc. But I doubt Donner or any other Borg route will get included. Licensing agreements, and the UP's well known stance against TS.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

We seem to have Enough Mountain running.......Canadian or the States......I would like to see more yard switching in an urban area.......or The "BN" racetrack through the western suburbs of Chicago...with the high density commuter system "Metra". The "Joint" line in Colorado would be nice too....if we have to have more grades. For our Canadian friends the bayview area right around the botanical gardens would be great lotsa a CN and CP action with "GO" commuters. But just running up and down mountains gets kinda boring........I guess I`m just used to high traffic flatland railroads.CG

I second the Bayview idea!
hehe.I'd like CN and CP In toronto.
Maybe having all the GO lines.
Or CN from Toronto to Sarnia- for the VIA's.
I'd also like to see the BNSF in Chicago along the racetrack.Thats a nice area.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but don't count on the original 6 being included with the new 5 routes, and also don't count on MSTS 2 being compatible with version 1 stuff. Preapre now so you won't be shocked later. As for Donner, SP owned the route before UP took over, so they could eaily make it a SP route to avoid the UP stronghold, unless that also includes SP likeness.Whatever the case may be, I'm sure it will be worth the wait, as second versions of most PC games often are, but for now, I'll just enjoy what we got, because even after MSTS 2 comes out, it will be a long time before we end up where we are today with the countless add-ons.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

The only UP owned railroad that doesn't fall under the licence agreement is Western Pacific, so don't expect anything UP, SP, SSW, MP, DRGW, MKT, etc... in MSTS2. Look for either BNSF/BN/CB&Q/NP/GN/SP&S/ATSF, CSX/B&O/C&O/WM/ACL/SAL/L&N/RF&P, NS/N&W/SR/NKP/WLE/CG, Conrail/PC/NYC/PRR/NYNH&H/CNJ/LV/RDG/PRSL/EL/ER/DLW, CP/D&H/SOO, CN/WC/ACR/IC/ICG/GM&O, KCS, Amtrak, VIA, commuter lines, shortlines, tourist lines, or a mix. Also look for the possibility of rapid transit systems. The problem is that an accurately modeled New York Subway would crash MSTS because it would skyrocket the amount of objects per tile, and it would kill frame rates.I'm hoping for New York Central's Hudson Division from Grand Central Terminal to Albany or Troy, the Pennsylvania Railroad from Pennsylvania Station to Philadelphia or Washington, any branch of the Long Island Railroad, the New Haven Line from New York (GCT and Penn) to Boston, a portion of the Quebec-Windsor Corridor, the B&O Metropolitan Subdivision, the New River Gorge, the CB&Q's Racetrack from Chicago to Omaha or Denver, one or more NYCTA line(s), or the Channel Tunnel route from Paris to London via the CTRL. Having most of these would be great, but all would be asking for too much.

What I'd like to see in MSTS2 is the Western Maryland mainline from Cumberland to Frostburg . That section of track is still in operation, and would be perfect for MSTS2. That short stretch of track has lots of scenery, a tunnel, and has 4 horseshoe curves in it. This would be a great route to model from the 50's.mrWM734

Though don't forget UP is now marketing(read selling) their image and are apparently no longer afraid that MSTS will be used as a loco thief trainer so a UP route is not all that far fetched.Gary S

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

Is it still Microsoft & Kuju doing the texturing and rout building? It would be a shame to see Microsoft goof up on Horseshoe curve area, as for many PRR fans out there that I know of, it is also sacred ground. Also, does anyone know what kind of locomotives they will be including, and if so, do you think that they will correct many of the issues they had with the first copy? (Ie, miss-aligned wheelsets, crappy texturing, poor physics, Missing snow textures, etc...)No harm meant by this, so for any body who may be offended by this post, I deeply appologise.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

I would like to see an Aussie route and a Russian or Ukraine route. For North America, I would like something in the Appalachians or Eastern Quebec, these areas are tough for the individual to model, and would be fun to run. For Australia, maybe something in Victoria. A route through Kiev would be interesting as well for the Ukraine. Finally, I know it won't be there, but a great route would be to climb the Transylvanian Alps of Romania.

I'd be very surprised NOT to see a CP route included. I seem to remember hearing a lot about how CP was only too happy to participate in MSTS development. Maybe HAC will have something more to say about this.Having said that, I'd love to see something in the Toronto area.Cheers

I, too, would love to see something from Russia or the Ukraine - heck, I'm sure RZD or UZ could need the money MS would have to pay them for their cooperation ! As for the rest - an Aussie scenario would indeed be nice, as would one from South America or Africa...maybe even narrow-gauge? That is, assuming that MS (or, more precisely, Kuju) recognized there is actually more than just one track gauge in the world ...

I know this will come as a huge shock and be hard to swallow for many of you, but the US is _not_ the centre of the world. I doubt there'll be more than one or at the most two American routes. There are, after all, people elsewhere in the world playing MSTS too.I would guess that as there are five routes, there may be one route from each of the five parts of the world (America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia)

The "neutral" Swedes voluntarily provided tons and tons of supplies and raw materials for the Nazi war machine. But on a lighter note, why has no one mentioned India? That seems like a very promising route - great rolling stock, lots of diversity, spectacular scenery. The sheer density of objects might be an fps killer.

Not knowing the actual potential in Japan (initially, M$ Marketing must have foreseen some potential or they wouldn't have included the two Japan1 & Japan2 routes) I would place my bets for the three remaining routes as follows:- Some JNR High Speed Shinkansen route

Uh...where did you read about the Santa Fe and the Asian route? Haven't seen any announcement about that.As for the German route - I think MS's original announcement spoke of a high-speed line and explicitly mentioned the name "Deutsche Bahn"...so I'd say you can make that two modern-day European routes with quite some certainty . That's because the Re 465, which I, too, take as a hint towards a modern-day Swiss scenario, is a fairly recent engine that was introduced in the mid-90s.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

They're might be a British route, on the basis that Kuju are British-based and have been sniffing around the S&D (link as proof --> http://www.sdjr.co.uk/SD7News.html ) and rumours are of a black 5 like this one --> http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php?form_fileid=338&CUTHERE=2d6fcf3d41e5a338b1400ef698c3b2ce and a 9F --> http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php?form_fileid=242&CUTHERE=2d6fcf3d41e5a338b1400ef698c3b2ceWhich means I'm not too sure about there being 2 American routes; we know about one but last time the two US routes were quite different - please remember that the United States is not the centre of the universe! Besides which it'll only be a short while until you lot produce some nice modern US stuff. If theres only 1 American route, that could mean 1 US, 1 British, 1 German, 1 Swiss and another, rumours of which are probably gonna come from someone who can read and understand oriental languages.

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

There was speculation a while back that Maple Leaf Tracks was working on CN's Dundas Sub. We also know that through the efforts of Harold Clitheroe, CP has become more or less a "partner" railroad in MSTS. If Microsoft is contracting out some of the development, as is perhaps seen with the rolling stock, then maybe some route development is being contracted out as well. I would like to see Toronto area with CP, CN, Via/Amtrack, GO. I think one could end up with a very entertaining mix of activities.Chris

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

1: ICE Route: My guess is the NBS Rhin-Main, the latest of them (and a real roller-coaster it is...).
2: Horseshoe: No prizes...
3: Bern-Lotshberg-Simplon (or however it's spelt). See the screenshotThe guesses:
-Something UK, maybe historical, like the Great Western Railway.
-Asian route, Chinese steam? or another Japanese commuter route?
-Australian Route?
-Africa?
-The Railroad on the dark side of the moon?

>1: ICE Route: My guess is the NBS Rhin-Main, the latest of
>them (and a real roller-coaster it is...). Could be...but something tells me it would be more likely that it is a standard mainline upgraded for high-speed traffic - also known as "Schnellfahrstrecke" in German - , because this would allow for a greater variety of traffic, whereas the NBS is used exclusively by ICE 3 units...well, except for the odd track inspection train or towing engines in the case of a breakdown.>2: Horseshoe: No prizes... Can't argue with you there .>3: Bern-Lotshberg-Simplon (or however it's spelt). See the
>screenshot It's "Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon", or, in actual present-day terminology, "BLS Lötschbergbahn AG" . This sounds like a nice scenario, too, though I am not personally familiar with the real route.Look here for more information: http://www.bls.ch/>
>The guesses:
>-Something UK, maybe historical, like the Great Western
>Railway. Not a bad idea, though I believe it's more likely that we get a complement of two North American routes, two European routes, and one from another continent.>-Asian route, Chinese steam? or another Japanese commuter
>route? A Chinese steam line would definitely be cool . However, I'm not su sure about whether they might give us yet another commuter route - I personally believe a Shinkansen line might be more likely.>-Australian Route? ...hopefully either a narrow-gauge or broad-gauge one .>-Africa? That would be a really nice change of pace. Maybe a South African route with lots of steam - especially Garratts? >-The Railroad on the dark side of the moon? WTF?! Did Amtrak expand??!?!? Now that would explain why they're in the gutter finance-wise... *LOL*

RE: Lets prdict the new routes!

It would be M$ best advantage to play the Asian + Australian scenarios, seeing there is currently no Asian or Australian payware market for MSTS1. This would give M$ the advantage with having alot more Asian and Australian consumers - and of course that means more $$$. (Just what M$ wants).I'm assuming Horseshoe is a combined passenger/freight route, in that case we have:1 Old American Combined Route
1 Modern German Passenger Route
1 Modern Swiss Passenger RouteI'm bargaining on 1 Asian and 1 Australian route (ok maybe wishing not bargaining) - also predicting one of them is freight because we don't seem to have a pure freight route. I would bet the Australian route is Freight. Then again, it would disappoint alot of people if there wasn't an American Freight route....................So all we can do is wait. I don't blame or curse Microsoft for keeping secrets - none of us have been involved in a MSTS pre-release before and I think it's more exciting this way. Certainly their site will be getting alot of hits of people listening eagerly for announcements!Koz

Of course what I do want the most is Locotrol LSI
BNSF Detector Milepost 666.
