Just to ask the question to get a concise answer without having to pour through all these posts... What is the latest from Microsoft, industry, retailers... whomever... on when the next iteration of MSTS will be available for purchase?I ask because I am interested in getting several payware routes for MSTS 1, but I am a little wary when I consider backward compatability when the new version comes out. Should I enjoy Cajon now, or wait for MSTS 2 so I make sure my version of Cajon will run on the newer software version (assuming the people who built Cajon would update it for the new MSTS version)?Sorry if this is redundant, but I appreciate anyone's indulging me. Thank you.-Tony Renauldo

RE: MSTS 2

Hi Tony !Just had some E-Mail from a Member telling me that he had a reply from Microsoft about the future of MSTS, again saying more or less what we all have been told in the past, NOTHING !!!It will be a long time before we shall see a completely new version of MSTS, backward compatible or not ! So I would suggest that in the meantime you do what the rest of us does, HAVE FUN with MSTS-1 and all the latest ADD-ON Routes and new Utilities for it, growing like weeds after a drop of rain !!! RE: MSTS 2

The word from some folks connected with the project (not MS employees), is that it is still being rewritten, and will not likely be released for a year or more. I think it may be too early to get a precise projection, as I don't think the rewrite is far enough along to anticipate all the hurdles yet to be overcome??
The good news there, is that these folks are still working on it, it is not canceled or dropped as some seem to rumor incorrectly.

RE: MSTS 2

Bob;I've been spending more time on FS9 lately and especially after getting Ultimate Traffic. Hold on before deleting, I'm getting to the point that relates this back to MSTS! : )I've been adding planes and textures and find what MS has done with the file structure and such much better than what we got from Kuju and I hope if there ever is a version 2, that MS follows the same pattern. For those that don't use FS9 or if you do and don't add here is what is done. You have a folder for each plane type(replace with the word engine), say a DC10. This contains the configuration files for the plane. Under there you have a model folder and then all the texture folders. So you have one configuration file that links to all the texture folders. In MSTS we have 20 folders for 50 foot box car each with the same configuration files and a texture file for each repaint, UP, CN, etc. These eats up hard drive space. If it was like FS9, we'd have one 50 foot boxcar folder and only 1 set of configuration files. Under it would be 20 sub folders for textures, 1 for UP, 1 for CN etc. To me it not only flows better, but saves hard drive space.

RE: MSTS 2

The only problem I can see with your scenario, correct me if Im wrong, but you only fly ONE plain at a time, you don't pull a bunch of plains of all different paint schemes behind you, like we do with a train in MSTS. Thanks

RE: MSTS 2

Actually it works. I have some planes that are just AI but have 30 different textures and can find the same texure 20 times at one airport for the same config. So it should work.
