seeSomerset & Dorset - British Route – image 1That's a black 5, a British loco, in early (1950s) British Railways livery. It is ex-London Midland & Scottish Railway (same company as S&C from 1923 & the Royal Scot)I'll try and track down its movements & allocations - see if it was a local loco. The reason it's S&D. Simple, here -->http://www.sdjr.co.uk/SD7News.htmlSo routes. 1 US, 1 German, 1 Swiss, 1 British and one unknown.

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

Judging from what has been said in other threads, the fifth route is either in Asia (Bridge on the River Kwai, Thailand - the real one, not the one from the film) or a second, more modern-day US route (ATSF).It seems pretty clear though, that this game will have a much 'older' theme than the first one.. (the first one had two ca 1930 routes and two modern-day routes) The screenshot shown from the German route is a BR103, in its early 70s livery.. So that gives us: 1 US Route, ca 1946, one UK route, ca 1950, one German route, ca 1975. Then we have the Swiss route which will be modern-day, judging by the Re465

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

The scene above is late fifties or early sixties - the coaches (poor models at the moment and need work!) are in maroon, which was introduced in 1958. Before they would have been in crimson & cream, (see the Mk1s on www.uktrainsim.com). That nicely balances the whole time thing out, though there is a shame there's nothing prewar. The default S&C is based as it was in the 1970s - and even then it's a poor model. And the Flying Scotsman never went that way! Fortunately, there is a CD coming out soon in which the whole thing has been modelled - £4 ($6ish) for the complete package. Somehow I don't think that will be quite necessary in the real thing. The other thing to note is the locos - we've been promised 13 cabviews but the only difference between a black 5 and an 8F is the wheel arrangement (4-6-0 and 2-8-0 respectively) and there's another version called a Jubilee class with slightly larger driving wheels and 3 cylinders instead of 2 (again see Terry's models on www.uktrainsim.com and for info only www.jubilees.co.uk) - hence the same cabview can be used. Not to mention the fact that 843 black 5s were built!

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

Nope,If you like the original default S&C was v1, Pat Dalton's improvement was v2 (got that) and v3 is coming very soon. Some pics:Somerset & Dorset - British Route – image 8Somerset & Dorset - British Route – image 9Somerset & Dorset - British Route – image 10

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

Probably the best thing to do would be to watch the front page at http://www.UKTrainSim.com; when it's released there should be a news message (and probably some publicity over here).Distribution will be by CD, with a complete package including stock & activities but I don't know how the distribution will be arranged.

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

45437 (or is it 407?)Bushbury - 3B - 1950 - aug 51
Bescot - 3A - Sep 51 - Jan 54
Rugby - 2A - Mar 54 - Jan 57 (at least)During this period was logged at Llandudno Junction for a month, and Willesden for two months............doubtful these were proper transfers!!Holyhead - 6J - Jul 57 - Oct 60.........would have gained lion in wheel logo sometime in 1957/8.if 45407.............Sheffield to 53, then a few brief Midland allocations, then Saltley, Kentish Town from 56.Make of that what you will...................Dave

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

Far more likely scenario for use of 45407.......it's a preserved loco, and I suspect they probably used it for the sound recordings, so have also used it's identity and graphics (pretty poorly, it seems to me so far from the one pic, but that's probably unfair, so I'll wait for a better look!!) ????Dave

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

I don't necessarily agree with TS2 depicting only "older" scenarios. Some of DB's 103s did, in fact, keep the old cream/red livery until recently - only the corporate logo was replaced after the merger of the old Bundesbahn and the former East German Reichsbahn in 1994. Moreover, there is still the Swiss Re 465 from the earlier set of screenshots, and this engine was definitely NOT around in the 1970s.My guess is we're getting the following routes - a modern-day Swiss route featuring part of the BLS/SBB network; a German route based in the Ruhr area; Pennsy's Horseshoe Curve as it was in 1946; the Somerset & Dorset route from the early 50s, and a fifth route we will yet have to learn about.

Here's a pic of the real thing, as preserved on the East Lancashire Railway.Note that I have copied the picture from the ELR website http://www.east-lancs-rly.co.uk/ into my own album so that I don't pinch their bandwidth (so no malice intended!)Somerset & Dorset - British Route – image 20

RE: Somerset & Dorset - British Route

What about the S&D, slow and dirty routy route from Bath to Bournmouth, which I had on the spectrum many years ago. That would make a great MSTS route. Re Pat Daltons 1930SC route, its a masterpiece! It makes the original so mundane, and I have made 20 activities for it. I saw a programme on tv showing the whole route from Birmingham to Carlisle, via Settle and it was amazing to watch.David
