With regards to speculation that the lengthy delay of the release of M$TS2 is due to a 64-bit rewrite or something, this article raises some interesting points. http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=5768Granted, the author talks about OSs and processors not normally associated with Windows.
To get the full benefit of 64-bit computing the entire Ball Game will have to be re-designed ! Operating Systems and Hardware supporting it as well as Software !The ATHLON 64-bit Processor in it's various guises, being backward compatible with 32-bit code instructions is the way to go forward in the immediate future until the rest of the Industry has caught up with 64-bit technology, having been used by SUN and others for some time now. There were reports in the Forum about guys running MSTS on ATHLON 64-bit machines, recording vastly improved Frame Rates already ! But until MSTS has been re-created to take advantage of all the latest in Graphics Technology, like DirectX-9 and the latest Graphics Cards from ATI and nVidia we shall not get all of the benefits these new Processors can supply !Having said that, there are indications already that Graphics Cards themselves will progress into a new age of doing things. GPUs with increased speeds and onboard RAM improved beyond what we have now !Exciting, isn't it ? O t t o
