See http://ac.turbinegames.com for what's happening to one of MicroSoft's MMP games...Asheron's Call. The company that developed Asheron's Call (Turbine Games) is buying the rights back from MicroSoft and intending to do the full support on its own. Wonder what would have happened if Kuju had tried the same thing? Good thing/bad thing?Charlie

Charlie,I think KUJU's main problem was that they could not muster nor afford the kind of programmers they would have needed to create a completely new MSTS with a re-designed Graphics Engine, the old one no longer up to the DirectX-9.0+ job, already losing money in other areas of their activities. They would then have to market it themselves and rely on Distributors, not their scene I think, being contracting developers of gaming software.O t t o

Point well taken. The difference between MSTS and AC is that Turbine Games will make money in the "after market", providing the service to play the MMP. Once you sell MSTS, you've sold it. Charlie

RE: Where's MicroSoft going?

Just heard more on how MS treated TurbineGames in the buy-back. Seems MS stopped producing retail copies of AC well before Christmas shopping period, so there are virtually no copies available off the shelf, anywhere. That means TurbineGames loses one entire holiday sales season. They are trying to recover by making the game software available by on-line download, but won't have any boxed copies on shelves for several months...trying to get them in the retail pipeline before next Christmas will be tough. Another Bill Gates--I don't have to worry about what people think of me 'cause I'm so rich and can buy their love with my foundation--screw job. Charlie
