RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

LAST EDITED ON May-12-03 AT 08:52 PM (EDT)

Virtual engineers can take charge of one of 13 fully interactive 3-D cabs complete with accurate, fully functional gauges and working controls, including, for the first time, U.S. steam locomotives. Vivid sound effects bring to life the powerful rumble of a powerful, modern diesel as it lugs a long coal train and the distinctive sounds of high-speed electric locomotives as they operate over famous routes in Europe.
A hint on the other US route?

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

There were a lot of coal and ore trains over the PRR. Though why they picked the late 40's is beyond me. The track and the K4's were beat to hell by the rigors of WW2. The K4's were completely worn out by then. The one thing is though, the track remained the same until the late 70's, the era I like to do activities for, until CR pulled up the third track in places and then in the 90's when they finally made the clearances high enough for doublestacks to pass through. I am curious to see how much of the western side of the moutain in modeled. That grade can be as nasty as the east side of the mountain. Helpers both ways.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

Kevin, I completely agree with you. Living in the area of the western slope, I can just imagine all the possibilities that exist for activity developers (coal runs out of Ebensburgh, steel mills in Johnstown, let alone the Tunnels and Benny). Dare I hope that it will run fron Conway to Enola? That would be just too great in my opinion!

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

OK
We know 5 routes involved, so far we know
PRR 1946
Modern German
From screen shots we've seen modern Swiss equipment and I've seen at least one UK steamer
That gives us 4
I'm figuring "Modern diesel as it lugs long coal train" may mean Wyoming coal since BN & C&NW had the joint line out of the coal fields and MS already has a relation with BNSF plus I would think MS has the east coast covered with PRR they'd probably move west(Though I can still hope that they mean rolling that coal through the Chicago burbs on the way up to the WEPX plant in Wisconsin)Gary S

Maybe the other route is the Powder River Basin? That's one place I can think of in the US where there is major coal traffic.Brian.

According to someone attending the E3 this;Import is possible from MSTS1 by using a conversion tool, however only the 2D cabs are compatible.
Routes and activities are not compatible. So there you go..

Richard.

So this means rolling stock and locos are fully compatible (including cab views) once they're converted, but not the routes or activities? As for the "big ouch", I suppose it depends on the new route editor. If the new route editor is much more user friendly, it won't be quite so bad.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

The reason why routes isn't compatible must be the new railsystem - spline track. It will intresting to see if it's only splines rails in msts 2 or if the have fixed track also.../Fredrik

To be precise, the engines and objects are compatible. But only the 2-D cabview.

>To be precise, the engines and objects are compatible. Are you trying to say here that all 3D models can be converted and the only non-3D thing that can be converted is the 2D cab view? When you say "but only the 2-D cabview", I assume you aren't saying that the 2D cabview is the only thing that's compatible? :S--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

But how many of the cabviews are 2D??
(OK, seem to recall that the original GP38-2 cabview was but I've long since gotten rid of that...)

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

I assume that you would be able to swap cabs like MSTS1. Therefore if you have a suitable 3D cab, you could use that instead? Am I wrong in assuming this?--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

Mmh - assuming the 3D cabs are, in fact, integral parts of the locomotives' 3D models, I don't see how you could transplant them to any 3rd-party engine. However, couldn't there be some sort of a "common cab" folder which holds around a half dozen generic cabs for various kinds of locomotives - such as "modern diesel", "modern electric", "steam" - which you could then merge with any TS1 engine?

RE: Ladies and Gentlemen...We have compatibility

But in MSTS1, the passenger view can be a completely seperate .s file. eg: I'm working on a passenger car now. I'm using a seperate .s file for the passenger view so I can include much higher detail in the model and the textures than would be possible if I just used the external model and put a view inside it.--Victorian Railfan Web Site:

I'm referring to a German site; http://www.ts-site.deThey claim some facts about MSTS2, one of them is that there will be a tool for importing MSTS1 stuff. The engines will work, the objects will work too. Now for the inside only the 2D bitmap is transferable. And the how's and why's I simply don't know cause I ain't working for Kuju or Microsoft
I'm just shifting news from one website to another

Best regards,
Richard.
