I just noticed: After being absent for the past few months, Computer Gaming Magazine has just placed MSTS2 back on the game pipeline list with a target date of Feb 2004.
Now the question is, does that mean anything or not? Is their source any better than ours?

RE: FEB 04?

They said Oct 03, you say Feb 04, some say 0ct 04, and while I admit February seems a popular predicted date, it doesn't mean much. I wish people would stop trying to predict the release - the only people who can really report on that is M$ themselves. We KNOW it's late, as we expected, and we await Microsoft's next comment on the situation.Koz

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-03 AT 07:47 AM (EST)

Vern,I think that right now Microsoft have no idea what they are going to do about the next release of MSTS and when. They got a full "TO DO" list of more urgent items, mostly never ending Security issues and in between new Software releases guaranteed to make more money for them than the next MSTS ! Perhaps somebody could E-Mail the Editor of this magazine and ask him where they got this date from ? Like I did recently with 2 U.K. Computer Magazines reporting a Christmas release !O t t oEdit-Afterthought: There has got to be somebody who has a contact or friend inside M$-Redmond who could be persuaded to "Leak" some information about what they are doing with MSTS ? There have been others on more important issues !I shall have a go at Microsoft U.K. on Monday. More about their response then. In addition I shall E-Mail the Editors of the major U.K. Computer magazines again to ask them to try and get an answer. There has got to be one other than "No Comment" !

RE: FEB 04?

Otto - I agree, which is why I'm focusing on add ons for the existing version, until we get some firm information. I still think it will happen and not prove to be a one off like their Space Simulator was. However I would not be surprised if it is many months if not indeed a couple of years before we see Version 2. Actually, 5 years between versions would not be a bad thing as (given the time the current system takes to build routes), it allows the expansion market a reasonable window to "do their thing." However with that sort of interval some sort of bug patching programme would be a prerequisite.I'm still hoping V.2 gives us autogen for scenery effects would would slash at a stroke the time taken to build routes - I would be happy to wait another 12 - 18 months if that was an included feature.

RE: FEB 04?

I am with you there, Verne and think most will agree that it will be worth the wait if we get only some of what we have been clamouring for ! I just hope that I am still alive when they finally come out with MSTS-2 ! Mind you, by then M$ will probably have to code it for 64-bit Processors, DirextX-13 and Graphics Cards with their own 1 Gb CPUs and 1 Gb on-board Ram, sitting in new High Speed PCI slots !!! RE: FEB 04?

Well, while we're all squabbling over release dates, here's a quote from www.aerosoft.com:"MS Train Simulator II has been postponed: Microsoft has changed the status of their release date for Train Simulator II to "TBA" (to be announced). We have latest information that it is not to be released before summer 2004."For other Aussies like me, that means Julyish 2004.So in conclusion, ya just don't know.Koz

>What "Today's News", Brad ???? That there are already pirated copies of Windows "Longhorn" in Malaysia.

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: FEB 04?

Phil,If anything important like LONGHORN can be leaked out of Redmond for pirated copies to be made, why can we not tap into a source to let us in on what they are doing about MSTS-2 ?Not enough $$$ in it for somebody I presume ! O t t o

RE: FEB 04?

Chuck, this "Outsourcing" is putting a lot of I.T. staff and programmers out of work here in the U.K. and no doubt in the States as well.My daughter lost her Oracle Programming contract with AMERADA HESS in Copenhagen for the same reason. If any of these countries ever fall out with us, if they can afford to do so, we will have a real problem on our hands ! It seems that most things one buys these days are either "Made in China", "Taiwan" or other Eastern country !O t t o

RE: FEB 04?

Amazon.co.uk is currently offering pre-order on TS2 at a price of £25 (British Pounds). They give the release date as January 9th 2004 (subject to change of course!!).
This is a very reputable internet-only store from which I have made
several hassle free purchases.
As I will certainly be buying TS2 as soon as it does appear anyway I thought I might as well pre order at this very good price and then sit back and wait.Check it out and wish me luck.

RE: FEB 04?

Roger,I been meaning to do this a few days ago and forgot.Just asked MICROSOFT U.K. what they have to say about AMAZON U.K. announcing that MSTS-2 will be available in January 2004 and am being told that Redmond is not telling them anything about pending releases. It will be on their Web Site, the guy said ! Will have to wait until Redmond gets around telling us.In the meantime, drop AMAZON U.K. an E-Mail and ask them where they got that date from, Microsoft U.K. know nothing about !!! O t t o
