There is a hardcore of users in all our Fora who find it inappropriate if their version of Train Sim is being compared with others or references to them being made.I have been writing Accounting Software for the past 2O years. What makes it a cut above the rest is that I never stop improving on it, after listening to sensible suggestions from users and constantly having a look at the Competition, adopting the best they have to offer. What is wrong with pointing out what Microsoft should program into the next version of MSTS, available in other Sims ? M$ too have been borrowing the best from other Word processing and Spreadsheets Software, to mention but 2 items in their range. I still remember Lotus, Quattro, Word Perfect and others complaining ! Will Microsoft do the same with the next version of MSTS ? And I don't care where they copy improvements from as long as I get them !!! O t t o

edited for spelling.>There is a hardcore of users in all our Fora who find it
>inappropriate if their version of Train Sim is being
>compared with others or references to them being made. What most of the users in these forums find inappropriate are meaningless comparisons of disparate sims that serve no other use than flame bait. I prefer night over day, so should day be made more like night?Microsoft is going to do what they want with MSTS-2, no matter what comparisons you make in these forums. But we do prefer the posts remain on topic appropriate to the forum.

Does this mean other persons with dead horses like his? Or just other persons in general?

Disparate? How do you figure comparison of MSTS with ANY other train sim to be disparate? Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the meaning of the word.MSTS compared with, oh lessee, say Half-Life. THAT'S disparate. Or a comparison with Mechwarrior 4 would be disparate. The only thing in common there is that they're both sims.OTTO makes some valid points and has as much right to express his opinion here as anyone else has. Noone else who has expressed similar views seems to have been given anywhere near as much grief as he seems to receive.Perhaps you people should examine your own motives for such pisspoor behaviour before you start attacking. I've never once seen OTTO single anyone out or heap abuse for no goddamned good reason on anyone the way you people do. And yet despite that he never takes offense even though he has a perfect right to.In short, either grow up or shut up!

Disparate - Fundamentally distinct or different in kind.Other than they are both software and they both have a train theme, they are totally different products with completely different approaches, appearances and execution.I'm not attacking Otto, nor heaping abuse on him. While growing up I learned how to discuss and debate differing opinions without needing to resort to name calling or personal insults. If you can't take the heat of your own convictions, you should refrain from posting in public forums.

RE: Improving MSTS-2 by Comparison with other Sims

I don't understand why discussing train sims causes such heated personal defenses. I like all of the train sims I have. They all have good points and bad points. Some do specific things more realistically, faster, prettier, etc. than others. In my opinion, to say they are not comparable is like saying cars, such as Fords and Chrylers, or different brands of refrigerators, etc. aren't comparable and that good points/bad points can't be discussed.OTTO's feeling that open discussions could result in improvements in all sims is valid. Assuming, of course, that participants are willing to state facts that really are facts and that creators really care about user opinions once they have acquired the sim.Herb

What's the point having this forum if know one is prepared to discuss or debate anything. Seems pointless to me. Otto has the right to open a discussion. If you don't like it, then don't participate. RegardsAXE

>AXE Axe and others from the Trainz Tribe on here,This particular forum is about MSTS 2. To put most of your posts in perspective I am curious as to the reception we would get trying to open a discussion on the Trainz forum critical of Trainz? Oh wait Otto did that didn't he? And still has the scorch marks on his skivvies!Otto's post was fine... Especially since he wants to DISCUSS the different features. However FWIW IMO it should have been in the General Forum. But, a case could be made that having it on here is ok too! Evangelizing is, however, not appropriate! Georgi (to name one of the worst offenders) and his friends' fairly typical "MSTS SUX! And Trainz is the cure for Cancer!" posts are what we all resent on here and do nothing to promote....I have an idea! Since the MSTS community out numbers the Trainz community by several orders of magnitude why don't we all go to the trainz forums and post "Trainz Sux! and Auran is a bunch of money grubbing Pirates!" several times a day! That would bring things into Parity IMO! If you guys would DISCUSS rather than EVANGELIZE we wouldn't be in this situation. The Mormons could take lessons from Auran on how to build a Proselytizing Missionary force. Sheesh!Chuck Schneider

RE: Improving MSTS-2 by Comparison with other Sims

O.K. guys, before you start drawing your swords, I would like to apologise for not putting what I am trying to say correctly. As I said earlier on, I am trying to do my best ! Just posted a reply in the MSTS Forum on the subject of Track Sounds, something I hope will be improved upon in MSTS-2.Somebody else commented on MSTS's inability to let you drive units with cabs at both ends from either one and another about not being able to switch from one train in the Route to another and would also like a "Moving Map".Well, another Sim can do it and all I want for MICROSOFT is to tell their programmers to look at the Competition and borrow the best they have to offer and perhaps even improve on it ? Easier to achieve than PEACE in the MIDDLE EAST ! Take Care all of you and LET's BE FRIENDS ! !!!O t t o

Otto, I personally don't think we aren't friends. We're discussing and debating differing ideas here among friends, nothing more.
