I am browsing the Forums but there seems to be little of interest in them any more, apart from questions about the same old problems running MSTS or using the RE.Everything appears to be in Limbo, waiting for news about what MSTS-2 will bring and when ! Why in darnartion are MICROSOFT not giving us a clue what the next version is going to be about. Is it that they themselves don't know ?I am beginning to lose interest in Train Simming ! O t t o

I fear that after taking MSTS development away from Kuju, they start all over if at all. It'll take quite some months more to wait I guess...

RE: MSTS-2, what's it all about ?

Yeah - I totally agree. This service is NOT good enough.Microsoft deserve SEVERE PUNISHMENT for this utterly hopeless attempt at Train Simulator 2. Clearly they are not giving it the dedication it deserves - and I can almost envisage a complete withdrawal from the entire project on their behalf. No news means no developments, no developments mean no input, no input means no interest, no interest means no product.I am starting to think Microsoft Train Simulator 2 is not going to be the shining beacon we imagined. While I expect that M$ will want to capitolize on MSTS's money making capabilities, and release a sequel, I think it could be a long time. The project may be suspended indefinitely until if they are looking for a new partner. As usual, KUJU have buggered it up for us all. If it weren't for their resigning, we could have been playing MSTS 2 by Christmas or Quarter 1 next year - but now we're back up sh*t creek with this 'say nothing do nothing' approach M$ appears to be taking.I really don't know what's going on - but I SO BADLY wish I did.Koz

RE: MSTS-2, what's it all about ?

I have never understood why companies like MS never release information. Good or bad press is still good for a company. Just like the tabloids it keeps people hooked. If there are MS employees out there.... can you please explain why you would not update your TS website more often to "tease" people. It is cheap for MS to keep us upt to date. You do not have to give us Trade Secrets...........Just give us generic thoughts....at least.I would be curious to hear from MS people who are not engineers(analytical types), but managers or marketers.Thanks.

>The project may be suspended indefinitely until
>if they are looking for a new partner. How do you know they will be looking for a new partner? They might be developing themselves!
>As usual, KUJU have buggered it up for us all. If it weren't
>for their resigning, we could have been playing MSTS 2 by
>Christmas or Quarter 1 next year - but now we're back up
>sh*t creek with this 'say nothing do nothing' approach M$
>appears to be taking. If they didn't resign, what can you expect in MSTS 2? All the errors found in MSTS 1 plus more "interesting" errors? If MS were to recode from scratch, probably there would be different types of errors so we can try and solve them ourselves! Otherwise, it will still be the same boring errors...

-----You are reading my signature now, don't waste your time reading it!-----
Or probably, maybe you should waste your time reading it.
Eh, where did my signature go?
Oh, here it is, the one you are reading right now? Can't you see it? I know I know, it's probably too bright to see it.
Hey, look at my avatar, nice right? I drew it with my own hands holding the mouse in Paint, with the pencil tool(and the Filling tool!)!
It's a picture of me in Planet Stooopid, where everything is the same as what you call "Earth" except that we are called "aliens" in your planet.
Anyway, I warned you not waste time reading my signature! You have just wasted probably about 30 seconds reading it, where you could have spent the time doing better things, like maybe reading the next post below if there is one...

RE: MSTS-2, what's it all about ?

I am beginning to wonder if the pregnant silence emanating from MS indicates that they are rethinking the economics of investing the time and effort in recoding the whole sim and whether it would be a viable project.Does anyone have an idea of how many copies of the original MSTS were sold. That might give some idea of o f what would be a target to ensure a viable project.

Forum members have been trying to unbutton somebody's lips on that subject for some time now, Henry, alas no luck ! My guess is well over 1 million, looking at all the international Fora and their Membership, being just the tip of the iceberg, not counting many kids, mums and dads who have never heard of Train Sim Fora !O t t o

Lets not make all these speculations, for all we know, MSTS2 could be soon approaching the beta stage, they could just suddenly in the end of November, send out beta copies and have the gold version going by december for a release in Christmas. I know the lack of info is weird but maybe its to build the anticipation, I don't know but thats my take. In the mean time, I'll have MSTS1 and other games to use so I'm not too concerned about it.MSTS-2, what's it all about ? – image 3~The only way to ship~

RE: MSTS-2, what's it all about ?

The urban legend (for want of a better description) is that MTS sales were around 1 million.I therefore consider it highly unlikely they would walk away from such a lucrative franchise!I think we just have to be patient, in the absence of any news focus on the tremendous potential that still exists with MTS1 (I have enough route projects both in my own mind and people have requested to last five years!). MTS1 is like a good wine - gets better with age! The situation with MTS2 will sort itself out in due course but I don't mind waiting another 12 to 18 months if necessary if that's what's required to get it right.

Newer games are coming out that are way better than MSTS 1 can ever be. Like Century of Flight, this program actually takes advantage of the GMAX technology. Yes like good wine, it gets better with age, but theres a peak of ripness, and after it reached that peak, it starts to go bad. Just my 2 cent.

With companies like 3DTrains and FacingPoint Media creating new cutting edge routes and trains it keeps getting face-lifts and is still evolving.I will keep updating my installation with all of the new and upcoming content breathing new life, I can wait happily in the meantime for whatever MSTS 2 will bring.

RE: MSTS-2, what's it all about ?

Noticed an article on page 28 in the latest issue of the U.K. COMPUTER BUYER, stating that MSTS-2 is going to be released before Christmas, the writer of the article picked up from some old reports on Microsoft's and other related Web sites. So I telephoned their Editor to have a few "Words" on the subject of Misinformation. Turned out to be quite a nice guy, saying that he will try to get some Info out of Microsoft. Good luck, I said, trying to get blood out of a stone. But then again, being a Journalist with connections, he might just get a tiny hint ? Will report back, he said and so will I ! O t t o

LAST EDITED ON Nov-21-03 AT 10:52 AM (EST)

Thanks Mike, mine just arrived ! Shall have a chat with their Editor as well. Perhaps he can have a try to find a "Leak" at M$, being a prominent magazine in the States as well ! O t t oEdit-P.S.: Which page is it one, Mike ? Save me looking through the Mag page by page ! Forget it ! Found a small paragraph referring to it on page 60! Spoke to the Editor just now who tells me that the writer of this article got the information from the same outdated source as the one in the COMPUTER BUYER, probably being the same journalist, both magazines belonging to the same Publishers. One day I might find an Editor here in the U.K. or across the Pond who might think the subject interesting enough to dig deeper perhaps, starting by interviewing KUJU as to the real reasons for them to hand over. If they have not been "Gagged" by M$ that is ! Would make interesting reading "The Past and Future of MSTS" perhaps ?
He will try and get some Inside Info if he can !!!
